First day - what do you like to see in a new starter?

I’ll advise that you stay humble and try to learn as much as you can, before applying what you’ve learnt from elsewhere that you think might help. We wish you every success!0

I get a few new starters through, as the graduate scheme tend to rotate through my business area.
Things I like to see include-
Punctuality
Attentiveness
An understanding from them that they have much to learn
Them knowing before arrival on my desk exactly how I like my coffee
Attention to detail
On the last point, when I started I was sent out to get the breakfasts. Several different shops, and every item slightly complicated, such as bread toasted on one side, or well done bacon but lightly done sausages. Any error and that item went in the bin, and I was sent back to get it right.
Some of this was mild “hazing” of the new boy, but more importantly it was drumming into my head that if a customer mentioned fifteen descriptors on a deal then each one of them mattered to the customer, and had to be reflected in what they got.0
