£200,000 mortgage beast

Yes, it's a huge mortgage. Yes, I'm in the South East. I'm a single parent, self employed and I really want to tame this mortgage beast!

  • Right, that's the first post out the way! A bit more about me and the old finances.
I took the mortgage out when I was in a secure job earning a decent amount of money. Last year I went self employed, and a year in I've been taking stock and deciding what to do. There's still 23 years to run on the mortgage, it's £957 a month and I'm going to try and overpay by as much as possible over the next two years before I have to change to a different rate again.
It's very close to getting under the £200,000 mark, currently £200,700. I think psychologically it will help a lot to get past that barrier!
