Santander mortgage advice

Hi,
Me and my partner have applied for a mortgage online with Santander. After uploading all the documents they asked for we got told the underwriters had looked at it and it was approved. We therefore assumed it was moving forward. However today we were asked for more info. This info was my partners bank statements from 3 months and proof of address. All of which had been uploaded before and approved. I phoned up and they said it was purely for proof of address so we uploaded his polling card, they then asked again but kept mentioning a bank statement so we uploaded it again. They also said the reason they needed this was because the previous bank statement was printed in branch even though it still had his address. We’ve therefore now uploaded a pdf bank statement with the address on it.
So I’m confused, surely to be approved by the underwriters they have looked at the bank statement provided before? The person on the phone said it is probably accepted based on proof of address, however now I’m panicking that it’s not actually been approved like they had told us.
Anybody experience anything similar? We’ve had a few issues with them and I’ve heard we aren’t the only ones.

Until you've received a formal mortgage offer. Your mortgage application will remain subject to.0

Hi. We have just gone through a MB with Santander. We have had the same issues. Just play the game with them and it will go hopefully work out in the end.0

Santander won't accept a polling card as proof of address, hence why they have asked for a bank statement or similar.I am a Protection Adviser. Sorry to hijack the thread but what is considered a formal mortgage offer? We have had our mortgage offer through the post is this considered formal? Our application was accepted within 25 hrs without any request for bank statements or anything, just wondering if I should expect them to request more info further down the line?0
