credit paid into account after bankruptcy discharge

I have been asked to help one of my wife's friends with this issue:
Here is what I understand:
Sophia (not her real name) used to do some work for an agency back in 2016 and was paid into her bank account.
In 2017 she declared insolvency and this account as it was overdrawn was included in it.
In 2018 she was discharged..
She has done a bit of temping work with the same agency recently and gave them new bank details and has had no issues.
In September out of the blue she did not get paid and investigations revealed that inexplicably her money(around £1400 had been sent to her old bank (included in bankruptcy now discharged.)
The agency admit that they sent the money to the wrong account and keep telling her to wait for it to be returned and she has gone into debt again waiting for it.
This week she received a letter from Halifax . The first in three years thanking her for her payment and settling the account.
Now what?
Can Halifax do this after discharge?
Is the agency responsible for sending the money to the wrong bank in the first place ?
I came into this as my wife waited for me to be in a good mood over the weekend and asked me if she could come and stay with us as she is now in rent arrears and might lose her flat and I do not want that, I have not been asked yet but neither do I want to lend her any money.
Advice please
thank you

The agency should bear the responsibility for it though as it’s their error and effectively they have not paid her, so they should do so again. However I imagine this might affect her chances of getting any more work from them.
So she should contact the Halifax, explain the circumstances, and ask for it back and see what they say. Debts can be paid after bankruptcy for any number of reasons so it’s not unusual for a payment to be received on a debt years later. They’ve done nothing wrong in accepting it.0 -
When I did payroll many years ago, the employer could contact their bank and recall individual BACS Payroll payments. Any reason why the agency did not do that?0

Thank you Minkym00
I wrote a letter for her last night to Halifax we shall see what they say and she is expecting a call this afternoon from the agency so we will see what they have to say for themselves.0 -
Exactly what I said .She is expecting a call from the agency this afternoon and I have asked her to make that very point.
Thank you for your reply by the way .0 -
UPDATE:
Some good news here "Sophia" has had an email from the agency accepting responsibility for the error blaming an employee for accessing a back up file hence paying the money to an old account. The cheque is apparently in the post and they have thrown in £100 to sweeten the pot.
They say they will recover the money from Halifax.I say better them than me. Thanks on behalf of "Sophia" for your help.0
