Need a graduate loan!!

I want to borrow around £4000 over 5 years. I bank with NatWest and had one approved but when I sent off my paperwork they declined it becuase my job is on a temporary contract. I'm temp to perm; they're happy with me and want to make me permanent but there's a head-count freeze on over the whole company so they can't just yet. This is indefinite but I really need the loan. Anyone got any ideas? My brother suggested writing a letter on letter headed paper from work saying that I'm permanent - sounds very dodgy to me though - is it worth the risk?
