I've found a repair guide on the iFixit website, it looks like cleaning the inside should work, and if not, I can just replace the fan. The instructions look fairly simple, but I'm not sure which toolkit they use in their video. I only really need the 'TR9 Torx Security Screwdriver' and the 'Philips #1 screwdriver', but I'm thinking of buying their protech tool kit so I can replace my iPhone screen too. Has anyone got any experience of these repair toolkits? The professionals make it look so fast and easy in the video.
The fan won't need replacing just cleaning,it'll be the thermal paste on the processor which will need cleaning off and replacing as you'll find there'll be virtually nothing left on it,and it will run much quieter afterwards.
I've had to do 3 of them and it's really not that difficult at all.0 -
I have a newer slim line ps4 and when its updating the sound coming from it is like its trying to take off, but settles down after 5 minutes or so, are you updating or is it downloading anything?
When i had an older xbox 360 the fans where constant and the noise coming from them was horrendous again like its trying to take off, but as it was a few years old a deep clean fixed the issue, i bought some compressed air offline and took it apart so that it could be easily put back together and gave it a good blast in the fans etc and that fixed the issue,
If i remember rightly you can get a ps4 maintenance kit off ebay for a couple of £££ which includes all the screwdrivers etc that youd need to take them apart, just be careful if you choose this route as the clips can be quite fragile..0 -
Mine does the exact same thing. Much worse when it's being pushed to the max on huge games. Smaller games takes less effort so the noise isn't barely half as bad. I'm going to open it up again today and give it a clean. It's been a while so hopefully it'll improve a bit.Starting point - May 2020 Debt £25,231 ouch.Monthly update - June pendingBaby Step #1 £0 / £1000If you fall down, fall on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up.0

A youtube video from TronicsFix.
About 7 mins in he shows you the heatsink and it covered in dirt.
OP maybe your console has a similar issue.0 -
My PS4 is about 2 years old and ridiculously loud whenever I play demanding games. Shame really in it's current state it is unplayable.0

Mine has been doing this for years and is still going strong - original ps4 so it is very old now. I've always believed it to be dust, and you can open the ps4 and use compressed air to clean it out, but I've only ever done it once and the dust came back. The loud noise doesn't necessarily mean it's dying, but a clean would definitely help!0

dekaspace said:It should feel warm as that means its pulling the heat away, as for the noise it may be the hard drive or a fan, if its the fan just buy some compressed air from pound shops and luse it on the fan. Obviously make sure its unplugged from wall and tv when you do this.
press down on the console when you hear the noise it’s likely to be some thing coming lose with hear and vibrating.
could be something simple like what the console is placed on try relocating it.0
