Bought some Scoiattolo grilled vegetables organic "100% vegan."On cooking I thought it smelled awful, and I only tasted 1 and binned the rest. I checked the back to check and found the following "may contain crustaceans, eggs, fish". Horrible.
Looks as though they are simply covering themselves for all possible items finding tiny amounts in the product because these ingredients may be handled in the same building.

Then it simply should not be labelled as being suitable for vegans, or vegetarians.

The "may contain" list relates to potential allergens. For susceptible individuals, even minuscule amounts can be dangerous.
No doubt there are also standards for ingredients in products deemed suitable for Vegans/Vegetarians that will be different (possibly significantly different in both risk and quantities).
Well, my complaint to Sainbury's fell on deaf ears, they are still selling it.
Probably because without you returning the dodgy batch as part of the complaint for testing they cannot ascertain if there is anything wrong with the product. As pointed out the "may contain" mist is just because other dishes are made in the same kitchen and there is a chance that someone with a shellfish allergy may have a problem.

Then there would be no food products labelled vegan or veggie as no factory only produces vegan food lol.

As much as I like it "processed carp" often applies to vegan or vegetarian stuff as well. "processed" is not a meat thing exclusively.
And as a vege/vega remember that "organic" farming kills a lot more animals than other methods.
ETA: That's the actual ingredients, not a "may contain" list.
