Stayed at Brittania Hotel in Nottingham, please excuse the graphic description but it was gross including menstrual blood and faeces on the toilet.
I took photos and complained to reception who just gave me an email address to complain to.
After a month all they've said is they'll give me £20 as a good will gesture (not even the cost of the room for the night).
I'm not usually one to take a complaint this far but it was pretty disgusting. They aren't signed up to an ombudsman so I can't take it further (I tried Resolver). Is there anyway and anyone I can take it to? Nottingham Council? Watchdog?
I know it's a cheap poorly reviewed hotel (despite still being rated 3 star), but it's not right they get away with serious health issues, don't know what I could have caught in that room!

I just don't understand why you stayed in the room. I've been in hotels before with issues and I've gone to reception and got moved to another one. If there was no other room available i would have got a refund and gone to another hotel.

Send the pictures to the board of the hotel asking them : how would you feel staying here with your family?

I would write it off as a bad experience as Britannia hotels, and I use the term hotels loosely, are well-known for being pretty disgusting. They own Pontins for a start.

Yea I was about to say that too. I sometimes read the reviews on TripAdvisor for Pontins just for entertainment. They are cracking.

Didn't ask for a room change specifically, didn't get the chance to really. I went to reception saying I had a complaint, they quickly handed me an email address and said all complaints must go there.
You can't choose to spend the night in the room and then expect a full refund because of the problems you already knew about, it's one or the other.
blood and poo, serious health risks
You haven't given us full details (and you don't have to!) but I suspect you're overstating the risks here. I'm sure you've used dirty toilets in the past and lived to tell the tale.

Don't know how you paid for the room but if it was as cheap as some of the prices I can see it advertised for, £20 sounds fair enough to me.
  • Google Britannia hotels as there has been a few press articles about them recently including a journalist going to there Head Office to complain after a bad stay where they ignored her.

Let me assure you that Britannia Hotels do not give a flying monkeys. Even trade clients who book hundreds of room nights with them every year will get totally fobbed off if they raise a complaint. Do not waste your time or effort any further. That is all.

I overheard a conversation at a Brittania hotel once: elderly lady asking for help because the television in her room wasn't working. The receptionist said 'well what do you expect me to do about it?' :D
  • The moment I saw the word disgusting I knew it was a Britannia. I don’t know how that company it is still in business. Stayed at Sasha’s in a Manchester and it was the biggest Sh*t hole I have ever been in. The trip advisor reviews for this chain are true. I would rather sleep in a door way than pay to stay in a Britannia Craphole again.
