I have been wearing a upper denture for I guess about 8 years which I hold in place with Fixodent denture cream and it does the job ok
Two weeks ago I had a lower Denture fitted and I have been using the same Denture cream to hold it in place but it only holds it firmly in place for about 9 - 10 hours and the denture then becomes loose . I need it to hold the denture in place for at least 16 hours each time I fit it
My question is the Fixodent cream will hold the upper Denture in place for 3 - 4 days if I want it to but it will only hold the lower denture in place for 9 - 10 hours , Strange but true why does the cream hold the lower denture in place for only 10 hours ?

A lower denture has a lot less retention of it's own.
The upper has a great big surface area and it is also on a 'fixed' jaw (Your top jaw doesn't move)
In comparison, the lower is just hanging on a horseshoe of bone, with the tongue waggling around on one side, the cheeks flapping about on the other, and the whole jaw bouncing up and down to one degree or another nearly all day.
The main thing that will keep a denture in place is your muscles learning to control it, which will get better in time, as you use it and get used to it. Denture fixatives are never as effective for a bottom denture, and bottom dentures in general never feel quite as stable as upper ones. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
