NHS Back Pay

Hi All,
the NHS brought in a new pay scheme which meant all staff doing the same job would get the same pay no matter were they worked. I am still awaiting my "banding" into a pay bracket and when I do finally get this my pay will be backdated to October 2004!!! Is it unreasonable to expect interest on my back pay as it is not my fault the hospital I work for has not sorted this out yet. I have had no pay rise for 3 years pending my banding being agreed. Any ideas??

Yes, I think it is unreasonable to expect backpay. Can you even begin to imagine what this process is costing them??? And then to add interest as well???
Enjoy your payout - and please don't be miserable or bitter during your spending of it.
Have fun with it!

No, you won't get any interest. I waited over 2 years for my Agenda for Change back pay. Nice when it came though -it cleared a huge chunk of my debt! It wasn't nice never getting a payrise each year though - it was needed!!
Why not go and see your Agenda for Change team and see what the hold up is - could it be
- your job description needs agreeing with you
- your job description needs signing by your manager and/or 'grandparent'
- your job hasn't been nationally banded and it has to go in front of a panel or they could be waiting for the banding to be agreed
- you need to do a JAQ
- your JAQ is awaiting a panel to sit
- a banding panel needs to sit (they did about 5 or 6 in a morning where I worked)
- the panel has sat and your file is with HR waiting for it to be counter-signed
- you have been banded but you disagree and it has gone to appeal
- they are still inundated with appeals, new jobs awaiting panels and the odds and ends floating around because of the above.
What job do you do? Has it been nationally banded?
I only know some of the ins and outs because I shared an office with the (overstretched and pulling their hair out team of 2 AfC) staff for a year. Getting staff together to sit on panels was difficult as they were so busy doing their main job.
But, in the main, no, you won't get any interest - it would have been nice though!!!!"Stay Wonky":D

thanks for that. Filled my JAQ in over 6 months ago. The AFC team where I work has disbanded and it is now back in the hands of HR. Have pestered and pestered them but am getting nowhere. It seems to me that whilst the Trusts have my money, and that of my colleagues, they are in no hurry to pay up. Given that it is over 3 years I do think they should be liable to pay interest, it's bad enough that the normal pay rise comes through in November/December backdated to April (I've not had these by the way!!!)
Maybe this is something Martin would be interested in??Bank Charges - MCOL – LTSB Current Account £4,603.92 / Settled £5,680.76 /Financial Ombudsman – LTSB £11,715.84

I just think it an impossible mission
I wish your petition at Downing St lots of luck, but I also feel that the more time you spend winding yourself up and being angry and frustrated - the more that life will pass you by...and your lovely opportunity to get your hands on £xxxx will come and go with no happiness at all.
Thats all.Happy and thankful with never enough time to do everything:rotfl:0 -
I would go and see the HR manager who has the files. Get him/her to pull out the file and ask for a panel to be set up.
And then chase and chase and chase"Stay Wonky":D

If you owed them a pound it would be right out of your salary without the slightest consultation!!Bank Charges - MCOL – LTSB Current Account £4,603.92 / Settled £5,680.76 /Financial Ombudsman – LTSB £11,715.84

It's the same with local government pay reviews...similar process, but no interest on back pay.
I don't think I have ever known interest to be paid on backpay.....?0 -
its bad enough for the ordinary pay rise but to wait 3 years is ridiculousBank Charges - MCOL – LTSB Current Account £4,603.92 / Settled £5,680.76 /Financial Ombudsman – LTSB £11,715.84
