Old Style Daily Friday 29th November

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning All

Thanks for the start dumpling, hope Steve's eye op was successful and you are now sleeping better.

I woke up just before 4 yesterday morning so not much was done when I got home from work, it was an effort to drag myself around!

I'm so glad it's Friday, it seems like it's been a long week, not helped that on Wednesday I thought it was Thursday! Today should be good at work, a dress down day and the Head Teacher's 50th, hope there's cake!

Sounds like our injured friends are making good recoveries and everyone else is well. Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's still very mild here at the moment and the heating is still off. I think it really helps though that we live in a terraced house and my neighbours either side are quite elderly and have their heating on a lot.

I am waiting for it to be a bit more of a reasonable hour before I start clattering around the kitchen getting washed and dressed. I will make myself a bowl of cereal first and of course I have to have a cup of tea :).

My lovely friend is coming to see me, her husband is dropping her off at 9.30 and then he is going shopping so me and my mate will be putting the world to rights over a cup of coffee. I also have a body pillow to give her if she wants it as I bought it to try and help with me sleeping upstairs but it was not suitable. I know she uses one so hopefully she will like a new one too.

I still haven't spent a full night upstairs. I have ordered a new duvet as the one up there is really heavy so I bought a lightweight one. I found I was waking up in a puddle of sweat which was very unpleasant so I am hoping this new duvet will stop that. I am desperate to stay in my own bed with Steve so I will be trying everything I can think of to make it work.

I am making a beef and vegetable lasagne for dinner tonight. My diet has definitely been slipping this week so I need to get back on track. My new smaller plates will be arriving today as well so that will help.

Right, I am off to make a cup of tea, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Dark and damp here again this morning, temperature seems to have dropped again.

Hugs to all those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my porridge and first cuppa whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was chicken pie, chips, veg and gravy for the menfolk, I had a mushroom and veg parcel, chips and veg - all from the freezer, as I'm trying to use up stocks from the freezers, the outside one desperately needs defrosting but they both have so much in them I don't have enough room to empty it in to the other one, so need to eat it's contents! Not sure what we'll be having for dinner tonight - nothing too difficult.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive once I'd been to both my appointments although they did take up all morning and I didn't get home until lunchtime, so decided I'd give the house a quick spit and polish before I sat down to eat some lunch, otherwise I knew I'd get involved with something else and not do it.

This morning I'm going to do the food shopping first thing, then continue with the washing and drying, I need to do some ironing also. I do need to wrap the xmas prezzies also, but xmas cake needs making and the oven needs cleaning ............. so quite a bit to do! I'm thinking I'll put the oven cleaner on the oven overnight and then can get up early in the morning to finish it off.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING for starting us off. It feels much nippier here this morning, with frost on the roof tops that I can see. Brr!

I am back in the wide awake at silly o'clock club again. I seem to get to sleep ok, I just don't stay asleep. Then I am washed out all day.

The DGDs are still in the land of nod but there is no rush to wake them up this morning as it's yet another teacher training day! So I have the pleasure of their company all day! Obviously no Friday Tidy will get done so that will be postponed until tomorrow.

I ended up spending a fortune on my grocery shop yesterday. Last week's freezer defrost and Juggle around left me with some empty space in the smaller freezer, so I bought quite a few Xmas supplies to stash away.

DD and I finally got all the caravan stuff up in the loft last night for over winter storage. It was the usual debacle getting it up there! She also brought down my Xmas decs. They didn't come down last Xmas as trimming up was the last thing I felt like doing. I said I would make a bit of an effort this time, if only for the DGDs' sake.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad and convalescing. Thinking of our absent friends and hoping all is ok with them. Take care all xx

Good morning, it's damp but not raining here, cold though.
    Thanks for starting Dumpling.

Yesterday was an ok day, I ordered a couple of Christmas presents for DH. He's hard to buy for, so I was quite pleased to think of something.

Also I started altering some curtains-I'd bought them at Dune*m on Saturday for the living room. The ones I wanted only had eyelet tops and I needed pencil pleat, so I bought slightly longer than I needed, cut the eyelets off, put a new top hem in, and will attach 3" tape, which I'll buy this morning. There was a notice up saying that they do converting from eyelet to pencil, but I'm too tight to pay someone else to do it!! They weren't expensive curtains to start with.

Snoozer I was interested to read that you have no bottom, I don't either!! I have never been a large person, but had a respectable bottom that was in proportion with the rest of me, but it disappeared a few years ago
. I lost weight because I was going through a difficult time at work, and it went then and
never returned. You must find it difficult to buy trousers like me. Even before that happened I was never curvy with a waist.

Enough talk of bottoms, hope everyone has as good a day as they can

    Take care folks

    Morning all

The heating has clicked on this morning so it must be cold out there, quite cosy in here though.

Off to work today but is Friday which is a relief it does seem to have been a long week.

OH has the day off today as he is taking his dad to hosp for a check on his pacemaker, the man is also coming to hopefully fix the TD this afternoon, we will be needing it over the winter !!

Ive got some pork chops out for dinner so OH will make something marvellous with them which will save me cooking, Fridays are my most challenging days at work and I am often fit for nothing when I get home.

I am going to order two presents today which I have seen in the black Friday sale, and then all my shopping will be done apart from the fresh stuff in the in laws hamper which I cant get yet. Im going to try and wrap some more on Sunday.

Right have good days all xx

Specky where are you ??????? xx

    Good morning everyone.

Just after I posted yesterday morning a ring came at the intercom, 'delivery' said the voice. Nothing was expected so it was odd. Up the stairs comes my lovely nephew who lives in England! He was here on business so decided to look in on his ailing elders. :rotfl: It was so brilliant even if I was still in my jimjams (planning another wee snooze) and DM in bed.

I still can't sit for too long, think the excursion on Wednesday did me in, so spent a good part of the day lying down.

Last night I slept so much better. Seems to be a good night / bad night pattern developing. This morning I've got a GP appointment and then my friend will take me shopping.

Thoughts to all those who need them. Happy Friday to all.

    Morning

By gum its parky this morning :D

Sorry for the neglect again had a mad busy time at work which typical of my job at this time of year will start to fade to nothing soon so need to make hay whilst it lasts.

This weekend though I am heading to the good food show in Birmingham with my bestie where we plan to make the most of all the treats on offer which is a lot :) starting on the train with quite a few treats to get us started.....Scarlet I have no bum either or waist to mention so hoping all the goodies from the exhibition will be stored in the backside :rotfl: to be fair I have never possessed a bum so no loss felt.

Gers you are doing so well ...really glad its worked out for you too and as for the grabber you'll be surprised how useful it is way after the op .....mine is currently a leaf picker upperer and a cobweb grabber

Mostly done on pressies so no Black Friday madness for me. I was looking at a one pot as a treat but the price is no different than normal so wont be falling for that one ...maybe in the new year.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend
  • We have had a very heavy frost and although the sun is out its not easing at all. I have turned the heating up to 20 until the house warms up a bit. Needless to say I will be going nowhere today, the roads will be bad enough without me adding to the chaos

We came by another gift from the girls clearing out the house next door, there is one of those plastic sheds in the garden and they asked if we wanted it. The sentry box shed we bought some years ago is not in a good state, so it is going to be replaced. We are going to get it tomorrow. Funeral arrangements are all made, so a week on Tuesday.

December is always a bad month for us, we have had two deaths in the close this year..........

Towels in the washer, will dry them in the dryer. I have some ironing to do this morning. The bed linen etc from Wednesday.

Supper tonight the usual fish and chips. I had a mad moment yesterday and bought a pack of three small trifles, so we will have 2 of those.
  • Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Dumpling.

Very cold here with a hard frost. Nice change from rain though! I have bath towels in the machine, I'll hang them outside but not with much hope - they are a bit big for hanging on racks indoors.

Nothing much happening here, car still out of actionbut I mostly use the bus for economy's sake.

The windows desperately need cleaning so I'm being resolute and thinking of other unrelated things. And I don't want to do the Friday Tidy. I would rather have a day of messing about aimlessly.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
