Staying in Dublin

Hi All,


Does anyone have any recommendation of where to stay for a weekend in Dublin in the new year? Something that is nice but not too expensive but would make a nice romantic getaway.

I like the pub on the corner over the road from Dublin's oldest pub. (
O'Sheas Merchant & Ned O' Sheas)



Can be a bit noisy being on a main road. All that depends on you. Is in a good place though.


More towards the other side? Hotel Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin is also nice.


Those are for couples, if you are a groups, apartments are a better deal most times.

We recently stayed in the Marlin, opposite St Stephens Green shopping centre, it's still fairly new but was really lovely but my fav place is The Dylan it's gorgeous!!

I would advise going in January. Any later and prices escalate pretty quickly with rugby weekends etc.
Depends also how close you want to be to the centre. If it was me I would stay at Hilton Airport for £81 a night incl breakfast and use the airport buses to get in and out of the city centre (10-12/1)
Similar choice would be Crowne Plaza in Blanchardstown which has a regular bus service to town
£90 a night incl breakfast
In the city itself Hilton Kilmainham £111 per night Sandymount £111 per night at the Aviva stadium..bit old-fashioned but perfectly acceptable. A lot of dross on the North side of the city. Trivago gives accurate reviews 8.3 would be my cut-off! Have stayed also at Hilton Grand Canal and Hilton Garden Inn and can recommend but prices are higher

If you want to push the boat out a bit 5 star Intercontinental is £177 a night incl breakfast. It is by the RDS Ballsbridge. Haven't stayed there but it looks great!

Personally I wouldn't go past Jurys Inn on Parnell street, or the Maldron just up the street from Jurys. Both very central, 10min walk away from Grafton street and St. Stephens Green, plus the Luas stop is just 2 mins away from Jurys. I'm just back today from a weekend in the Jurys. Nice relaxing weekend.

I've stayed there (free night via a credit card that comes with a £99 annual fee). The hotel was all very fancy as you'd expect and the room was huge and very comfortable. Unfortunately it also had windows facing a nightclub and the soundproofing wasn't great so that was a definite negative on a Saturday evening. The gym/spa area seemed very nice albeit I only used it to get a shower. Breakfast wasn't included in my rate so can't comment on that. Depends how much time you typically spend in the hotel versus out, I'm more of a 'place to sleep' person but the Intercontinental used the same voucher as the Holiday Inn so why not...

We stayed in the westbury behind grafton street on the first night of our honeymoon. Very special occasion and I wouldn’t be doing it every weekend - even the breakfast was €27 each. Nice, though.

I've used the Mespil a few times and always found it good and prices can be quite reasonable.
