Hello
I am considering applying for sequestration. I am a disabled veteran and receive a war pension and state benefits as I am unable to work. I receive a carers allowance which goes towards providing me with personal help and assistance with jobs around the home I can’t do myself, I top this up from my pension and benefits. The accountant says I have to pay £240 a month towards my debts however the only way I can afford to do this is to reduce my care/help which then puts me at a disadvantage. Is there anyway I can ask him to reassess this? Are there any rules regarding sequestration and paying for home help and extra medical treatment not available on the nhs?
Thanks

Hi G8311374
Have you already applied for your own sequestration?
If not, who is "the accountant" who says that you have to pay £240 a month towards your debt? (You don't have to name the company if you don't want to - just give us an idea if it is somone who does your accounts or if it is someone you have gone to for advice on managing your debts)
Have you spoken to your local CAB or Council money advice team, or one of the debt charities, for advice about your debts?
I'm sorry to ask so many questions! I'm just trying to understand what the situation is before I try to give you any suggestions0 -
Hi I am in the process of applying but because I’ve been in and out of hospital it’s taking its time it also means that some months my finances are different to other months if that makes sense. The accountant is the one through a well known national debt charity.0

Thank you for that update G8311374
It should never be the case that someone should have to reduce their care/help in order to meet a Debtor Contribution Order. And that DCO does seem quite high.
Can you post up your SOA (income and expenditure) so that people can have a look at it to see if there is any obvious expenditure that's missing? Hopefully someone else can help with the link to the SOA!
Seeing the SOA should help us point out areas you can discuss with your adviser, to see if you can come to an agreement about a realistic DCO.
After that, you might also find it worth getting a second opinion from another real-life adviser. But let's check out the SOA first:)0
