NHS Lens voucher for multi glasses?

I recently had an eye test which concluded that I needed varifocal/bifocal glasses or alternatively three sets of separate glasses for short, medium and distance ranges. Because I am entitled to an NHS lens voucher would this cover if I chose the three separate glasses option?

As far as I can see the voucher only covers one pair of spectacles. Bifocals are covered but not varifocals.

The NHS provide you with either

1 voucher to be used towards bifocals / varifocals E ( if normal rx )

2 vouchers one to be used for a distance one to be used for near. 2 x A ( if normal rx )

I am sure some opticains would provide a budget varifocal for the cost of an E voucher?

the NHS does not provide for 3 seperate pairs under any circumstances.

Looks like specsavers will give you a budget varifocal

Depending on your prescription (higher prescriptions get a bit more) generally you would be intitled to 2x voucher A(39.10) towards distance and reading single vision pairs, or a voucher E (67.50) towards bifocals or varifocals.

If you are going down the varifocal route, be aware, you should be able to get very basic frames and lenses covered by the voucher, but the lenses are very basic - better lens choices are out there at a cost!!
