  • You won't be able to post images I suspect as you are a relatively new member - you need to have been on the boards a certain amount of time before you can post links etc. This is why we recommend the use of the SOA that you started off with - it's easy to format and post for anyone regardless of their length of membership. On the subject of that, you know you should be able to just go back and edit your earlier version, don't you? You don't have to re-do the whole thing again.

By "Parking up" the main car - does that mean off road, on private land, so you can SORN it? Can you SORN the bike for the time being also, allowing that this isn't really the time of year for it, is it. (I know a lot of bikers and most take the thing off the road for at least the worst of the winter months). Personally I'd say that if your main car is not in saleable condition (WeBuyAnyCar will take almost anything) then it's questionable whether it should be on the road at all, and again, I'm going to say what I said before - that a "spare car" is not a thing for the vast majority of the population. we run two cars as a household because we each need a car - if that changed so we didn't we'd get rid of the second one in a heartbeat, not keep it as a "spare".

Well done for your analysis on where your spending weaknesses occur. With the drinking side of things, only you can know whether "cutting back" is viable for you or whether you need to knock it on the head entirely - if the latter then I'd strongly urge you to seek support with that, as well. If the former, identifying the triggers is probably key. that superfluous spending should be tracked by means of a spending diary. Also think on that whether you're likely to stop and think more before spending cash, than you do if you're using a card, or contactless.

You can find £900 to buy a new car but can't find the money to free up the drain the bike is costing.

You also seem to have business expenses mixed with the personal.
Vehicle for work should be in the business accounts.

Your real income is probably a lot less.

Yes I can park up SORN on both. It is safe for the road, but has a few niggling issues that will needing before I sell it, and its probably wiser to move that one on after Christmas. I am quite attached to it but I am coming round to the idea that it will have to go

Agree on all other points. I relaiase this isn't going to be easy, as writing out a lot of this hasn't been either. I will have another look at the SOA

If you had read my post you would realise that the £900 for the car is coming from the sale of my other car, which I expect to achieve c.£1500 from.

Also, had you paid attention the bike is a £199 drain per month, which is significantly less than the £800+ drain that my main car is. Further, selling a 3 month old bike in December screams fire sale, so again, not the wisest when waiting a month or three will yield a far superior result

I don't understand your last comment, they are all personal vehicles, and I charge the business mileage. So no, it is not a work vehicle and shouldn't be in the business accounts.

Why would my income be any less than I have stated? I am hardly bragging here, I am looking for help not snide put downs.

You said up-thread that some of the vehicles were insured by your business. I think that's where the confusion has arisen.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)

That means lot of the running costs are business miles/expenses they should not be part of the personal finances.

You need to know the net cash available to work on your personal budget.

Yes you are probably right. That wasn't entirely true, they are paid for elsewhere but was too involved to explain on here. Either way, the insurance for the classic or the spare doesn't come out of my expenses

The trouble is people will find it hard to help and advise you if the information isn't a full and accurate account of your financial situation.

We can only ever go by what you post.

  • If - to all intents and purposes "someone else" pays for those things - regardless of who that is - then I'd suggest that all we need to know is the expenses related to those things that DO come from the income that the OP is telling us about. we don't need every last wart and pimple, after all!
