An alternative to mincemeat tarts...

Just wondered if anyone had tried these tarts...

Ecclefechan Tarts, currently on sale in Sainsburys.

Here is a recipe if anyone wants to make them.

• Thank you. I thought they sounded lovely in the BBC article. Not sure how I got this far in life without having heard of them.

Me too, especially served warm with a generous dollop of double cream. :) Might have a go at making these. I always find shop bought mince pies far too sweet and not boozy enough but never get round to making my own.

This reminds me of Canadian Butter Tarts, my mum is Canadian and I have inherited a lot of such recipes, they are delicious and I think far nicer than mince pies, very easy to make

Butter Tarts

1 small egg
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup currants
1 tbspn butter
Pastry

(1) Beat egg mixture into brown sugar
(2) Wash currants in boiling water, leave to soak for 10-15 mins
(3) Drain currants, add to egg and sugar, add butter
(4) Spoon into pastry cases
(5) Cook 210C for 15-25 mins

I made these today. They came out of the oven very soggy but soon firmed up - a cross between a biscuit and pastry texture and very mincemeaty!

http://recipes.had.co.nz/217/mincemeat-pinwheels (fantastic site with wondeful home baking recipes).

I rolled out the pastry thinner than suggested in the recipe and used more mincemeat. In my oven they needed 15 minutes to come out the right shade of brown.
