O/S Daily Sat 23 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 in his pit, he went out last night and came in in the early hours. DS2 settled and ok.
Dark and wet underfoot, raining steadily - this appears to be the forecast for the next few days, but mild.
Dinner last night was pie, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight not sure, but had talked about a ready made takeaway deal from the SM - DH and I had one when we were off and was pleasantly surprised about how nice it was, I also have a voucher - so will make quite a cheap takeaway treat.
Yesterday I got the fruit soaking for my xmas cake, and also sorted out the bottom of my wardrobe and my chest of drawers - I have a bag full of clothes to go to the clothing bank.
I'm working this morning, so will then have a chilled afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The weather isn't doing much of anything as yet and I haven't looked at the forecast.
I have decided to get the bus to Ilkley this a.m. and stock up on fish at M & S. My supplies are running low and I do so like their fish. I'll detour into Laura Ashley first just in case they have yet another sale on!
If it stays fine I should really sweep up some leaves when I get back and tidy up the back garden a bit. With a bit of luck it might be raining by then and I won't have to bother!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. TAFF have a lovely holiday. Hope the convalescents continue to improve. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I've had a busy few days, went out for lunch on Thursday, had a home made cream tea on Friday and so I'm hoping for a lazy day today. I've started to crochet some Swedish gnomes from a blog I found, I'm struggling to decide how to do the beard.
It's a bit milder today but wet so I'll have to dodge the showers when I walk Beano as he hates the rain.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -

We were watching Captain Marvel yesterday when mr tru said “Which is this again – Marvel or DC?” I told him the clue is in the name and he really needs to brush up on his superheroes
I love the Marvel films and I'll be watching this one again before the weekend is over
FIL's clothes were sorted a few days ago, we dropped the good stuff off to the City Mission yesterday. Scamp came with us, when we got to FIL's house he ran to his chair and was confused to find it empty. He sniffed all over the house then went back to the chair and sat in front of it. I gave him an ear scratch and a treat and he followed us around, looking a bit lost, til we left. We intended to stop for a long walk after we'd dropped the clothes off but it was pouring with rain by then so we headed straight home. Scamp spent the rest of the day curled up on the sofa, not wanting to be touched. Animals know, don't they?
The rain has stopped for now, not sure how long it'll hold off though. Walks will be fitted in around the weather todayI have no washing to do, downstairs needs hoovering and a bit of tidying and that's it – I should be done in about half an hour. Crocheted gnomes sound interesting Hester I might investigate those later!

Good morning, it's raining here, still dark, probably cold.
Yesterday was ok, I went out and got a new watch strap from the man on the market, bumped into one of my tai chi mates and chatted for a bit, also looked in the chazzers and came home. I nipped into * and M and found a few bargains. I'm always haunting the charity/cheap shops.
Spent the rest of the day doing jobs round the house, and sorted through the drawer where I keep gift wrap and unused Christmas cards. Went to a friends in the evening, there were only 2 of us, because 1 person was away and another had a heavy cold and didn't want to pass it on.
Today, what delights does today hold? Will I be whisked away to somewhere warm and sunny, with an unlimited amount of money and loads of new clothes?
Probably not.
I have shopping to do, and might pick up a few Christmas things,
Hey ho, I can dream!!
Anyway I'll stop waffling and hope everyone has a good Saturday.
Take care folks0 -
Morning All
Cold, wet, dark and miserable this morning, the washing will have to stay inside.
I went to the shops with DD after work yesterday, Sophie seemed to like looking at all the lights and was as good as gold. I returned some trousers, bought a couple of christmas presents and was all done in an hour. Feel really pleased that I managed to do/get everything on my list. Just a blouse to return today but that's local so will walk down later.
A couple more presents were delivered yesterday so I can do some wrapping later, only two more gifts to buy and I'm done!
Happy holidays taff.
Happy new home to your family MM.
Poor Scampi tru, it'll take him a while to work things out.
Glad you had a good birthday celebration HH.
Hope the poorlies are recovering.
Not much planned today so will do some housework then I have a 30th birthday party this evening, just so I can feel really old!
Have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Up early for me on a Saturday as DD and I are off shopping to try and get most of the xmas presents finished off, we are going to leave earlyish and try to get there and back before the crowds, we will have a bit of lunch out.
No housework today and OH will do the shopping after the log man has been, I will write him a list in a while, he is very good at shopping but does tend to forget things such as yogurt which we both have for breakfast.
I have a towel load on the go but it will have to go in the td as its pouring with rain.
Tru poor scamp, they do know these things ! Also I am very much looking forward to Tru's carol corner starting !!
I dont know if my job is safe or not, everyone is feeling very vulnerable atm, but there will need to be a client cafe all the time the clients are there, but they could change it to just drinks etc then they would not need a chef and could get someone cheaper in ??? will just have to wait and see I suppose.
Right better get myself ready to face the crowds, wish me luck !!
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning, almost 8 o'clock and not properly light yet! It is drizzling.
I have one load of washing just finishing in the machine and that will have to go on the rack indoors.
I'm working today so will go and have a shower and get ready soonish.
Yesterday I needed to go out and we do have a tiny bus that runs along our road once an hour, just in the middle of the day, not Sundays. But it didn't come so I walked down to the main road and got where I wanted to be on 2 buses, then got the tiny bus back - only to find that I'd got on the wrong direction. This was the last one at about 2 pm but instead of doing the circular route, which would have brought me home slowly, it stops being that bus halfway and turns into one going to a neighbouring town, humph. So the kind driver dropped me by a main route and I waited 25 minutes for a bus which was meant to come every 2 - 7 minutes, then 2 more buses, all to buy 2 balls of yarn and some toy stuffing. TA I sympathise - at least I have choices here, I can walk a bit and hop on different buses. I visited parts of the city that I'd not seen for years. By the time I got back I was soaked and very cold and tired. Normally I'd have given up and rung Mr AOD to come and rescue me but he has not done anything about the car so that wasn't possible.
Today is only 2 buses each way, some might be a bit crowded because of the train strike.
Tru that sounds so sad, yes I think animals do know.
Must get off my old fat arris, hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning folks.
I haven't opened the blinds yet as it seems dark still.
Yesterday my friend came to change my dressing so I asked him to take a photo. The wound is very clean and dry though there's still extensive bruising which accounts for my discomfort. I'm just really happy that I'm not in pain any more.
I hope that everyone has a good day ahead. The thought of Christmas shopping is scaring me, think it'll all be online here this year. Not that I do that much normally.
Thoughts to those with worries and struggles. Happy Saturday to all.0 -
Oh dear, Christmas, I haven't thought about it at all really apart from having a couple of very small things for Esben. Steve has decided he wants to join the local golf club so that will be his present but I haven't got a clue about anyone else.
We're both still coughing a lot and I have had no real appetite for a few days although it won't do me any harm to live on my fat stores for a while. Another quiet day is in store today I think.0 -
Hello
We had a lovely day with the DGC yesterday and over lunch we had some in-depth chats about dementia and " private parts " :rotfl:. I'm just happy that they feel comfortable enough to talk openly to us oldies.
This morning I have put the WM on and the DW has been emptied and refilled. Anything else done will be a bonus today.
Our buses have gone from 2 an hour to 1 an hour, they did want to remove them all together until the local rag got hold of the story. Unfortunately our surgery is no where near any bus route and up a very steep hill. Didn't think that through when they built it did they ?
RedRuby I'm sorry I missed the bit about the redundancies. I hope things go the way you want/need. I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Tru we also watched that film...... Mr Fix It enjoyed it too and I loved the bit about the cat when it ate the enemy. Perhaps I'm just plain weird :rotfl:
TA hope you feel better today.
Scarlett if you do get whisked away to warmer climes, please call for me.
taff enjoy your break.
Hugs to all today
Take care
