MORTGAGE BLACKMAIL BY THE HALIFAX BUILDING SOCIETY IN THE 80s

Any advice please for getting this looked into, many years ago we wanted to move house which we had a repayment mortgage with the halifax. They agreed to our new amount and just before completion while signing the papers they announced we couldnt have the amount we wanted on a repayment basis but could if we had an endowment mortgage. it was a suspicious set up the woman with us in the meeting kept going out the room and coming back in with all these new demands.
we felt forced to accept the offer as we were about to move.
we felt very angry for years but never knew there was anything we could do about it, it was early 80s.
over the years, we moved the mortgage a couple of times and it's now finished.
When endowments started to be flagged up as mis_sold i successfully claimed compensation, stating in my claim we never wanted an endowment in the first place and was forced to have it. But there was never any mention of the actual mortgages being mis sold. it occured to me to ask about it before the August 2019 deadline and Halifax have said they have not records and its too late now and i should have mentioned it before now, even though i did in the endowment claims. I dont know what rules they are going by as i am not aware there are any in place. is this worth pursuing. I could really do with some advice but don't know where to go. thanks to anyone who can offer advice.

All of that is correct. Besides, what additional loss did it cause you? You've already been compensated for the difference between the performance of your endowment policy and what you would have paid off under a repayment mortgage.traceyjanet wrote: »Halifax have said they have not records and it's too late now and I should have mentioned it before now0 -
What documentary evidence do you to support your claim? Word and recollections alone will not suffice. There's no requirement for the lender to have held any records for that period of time either.0

What August 2019 deadline ?? No such thing AFAIK
You also were not "forced" to take an endowment you could have gone elsewhere or not bought a house.
You've been compensated for the underperformance so you've lost nothing you are asking for double compo0 -

Why would the mortgage be missold?it occured to me to ask about it before the August 2019 deadline
What deadline? Are you perhaps mixing up different things? (e.g. the PPI deadline)Halifax have said they have not records and its too late now and i should have mentioned it before now, even though i did in the endowment claims.
So, what is your mortgage complaint then? Its difficult to see how you could have one. The endowment redress takes into account the mortgage interest payments etc. So, what exactly do you think is missing?
However, they are correct. You are way past the time to raise a complaint on an unrelated issue.0 -
From what you say, the Halifax actually gave you the mortgage you want (though on an endowment basis not repayment), so there seems to be little to complain about here.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
