Natures menu voucher

Options
Just a heads up to anyone who wins one of the Natures menu vouchers that have been on various competition sites recently.
I won a £50 with one of the Mags dailies.
When I tried to use it a £7.95 delivery charge was raised.

I queried the charge with the company and they replied that in order to benefit from free delivery the order needs to be above £29 ( either with or without a voucher code).

I have sent a response to the company and I’m waiting for a reply.

So in essence if you win one of these vouchers you either pay £7.95 or £29 depending on which option you prefer ( or not ! ).

Nowhere in the terms or competition blurb is this mentioned.

  • Funny you say that as I have just won a £50 voucher from a mag daily for a linen company and before I use it I have to make the order over £50 excluding VAT. So I end up needing to pay about £12. Did you get a response from the company?

I did get a response yesterday afternoon. My enquiry was raised with a manager and the company has said they will now reimburse the postage charge after I place my order.

I’m not sure whether this is just a lack of clear thinking from these companies or not, but I’m definitely not a fan of hidden charges.
  • Can I ask how you politely raised this? I did ask whether the amount I was paying was correct and they just said yes. I wonder what my next email should be. Or do I just pay the money?

That’s exactly what happened to me initially, but because I wasn’t best pleased with the auto response I messaged again and said I was very surprised that I would be asked to pay as this voucher was a prize.

It sat less well with me because this company are doing lots of competitions at the moment, some for pet food as opposed to vouchers.
They also have free delivery available for regular customers so I knew they would have a regular delivery system in place for their orders.

If a voucher is for a lot of money it might be a different matter but when it’s £50 the postage requested by the company is almost 20% of the prize value.
  • Thanks for the advice. So maybe I should drop them another email then? Any tips on what to say? xx

Maybe just ask them to confirm that they definitely are expecting you to pay a charge, even though they sent you the voucher as a prize and point out that it wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the comp or the terms that this would be expected from you.
No harm in saying you are a potential new customer for their services either.

Let us know how it turns out for you, best of luck
  • Will do. Thanks for the advice. Have a lovely day.

I saved mine till Black Friday last year, they had some good deals. Might be worth holding on placing an order just in case they repeat them;)

  • All sorted. They let me have the £50 include the VAT, so that I wouldn't have to pay anything. Very happy with the outcome.
