O/S Daily Saturday 16 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv with a cuppa, DS1 still in his pit, and I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here after having a bit of a lie in. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was ham, mushroom and cheese omelette, skinny chips and coleslaw - lovely it was. Not sure about tonight but I'll organise something.
Light, damp underfoot and cool.
Was very lazy yesterday - I did the food shopping then we didn't really do anything for the rest of the day.
This morning I'm going to make some potato and leek soup - this will be my lunch today and work lunch for Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
It was wet and windy again yesterday. We went out for a walk and the rain started mid-morning, we were back home just before that. Scamp was an angel all day :A
Mr tru and his brothers met at the FIL's house to put that paperwork in order and chat about the funeral. They decided to go through who wanted what from the house and took a few things. I've always quite liked an old, slighty tatty sideboard but have never mentoned it, and was only was going to ask for it if it ended up in the unwanted pile in a few weeks time. The BILs didn't want it, so mr tru brought it home – he thought it would be useful in my craft room (which still isn't a craft room – yet!). I have to make a bit of space for it so we put it in front of the bookcase in the lounge, stepped back and both said it's too nice to hide away upstairs. So I now have a piece of furniture to sand and varnish (and straighten up the slighty wonky door), and have to move things around a bit in the lounge
The forecast says there's not much rain, but it said that yesterday and it was a lie, lol. I think we're in for another wet day so I'll be indoors again. The sky has been dark all day lately, I've had the lights on most of the time. I'll leave them off today and light a few candles instead, it feels like a cosy sofa kind of day. Bulletproof0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's stopped raining:D. I was getting a bit fed up of the cold and wet weather and today it is bright with patches of blue sky. I have a nice quiet day planned, Bobby is getting a very overdue full groom from my lovely mobile groomer. She parks her van right outside the house and has all the stuff she needs to bath and clip him in the back of it. He always looks and smells gorgeous afterwards so it is worth every penny.
I have a food shopping delivery at 10ish which will be great as we are running out of several staples. Steve sent one of the girls to buy a tin of beans from the corner shop and they wanted 89p for it .
Considering I get 4 tins for a pound from Tesco it was a bit of a shock.
I fancy porridge for breakfast today, this is a new challenge for Steve but I am sure he will manage brilliantly :rotfl:. Speaking of Steve, the hospital rang him yesterday to give him a date for his second cataract operation. It is in 10 days time so I need to get a bit more mobile by then...no pressure . Jemima is going to see if she can get the day off work to stay with me and to drive him up and back from the hospital. I am so thankful for my lovely family and the help they give.
Ok, breakfast is calling so I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning, it is less cold here, damping but not raining.
I have a small load in the washer and more to put in later.
I have just mopped the kitchen and gall floors, all nice and shiny now - until other people get up and start walking leaves and grot in.
Mr m*rrisons is delivering our shopping g today as my mister has not done anything about our car, he is not very well, hasn't been for a few days, he seems very tired.
I've just had a letter informing me that I'll be getting the winter fuel payment but I've been having that for years so nice but not a surprise. Plus a letter telling me to do my tax return.
Jobs await me and I've been letting Mr AOD sleep but I'd prefer to do them in clothes rather than pjs so I'll have to go up soon and get dressed very quietly.
JackieO am sorry to hear about all the damage to your arm and shoulder, I'd be spitting feathers too, forced inactivity is not great. I suppose the more you rest, the faster you will heal.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Here we go again. Just spouted a load of waffle which the ether decided to gobble up. Bah!
JACKIE so sorry to read your post. I'm like you, not a patient patient, so understand your frustration at being grounded. Fingers crossed you soon start to feel more comfortable and painfree.
It's off to Bradford Alhambra today for us lot for our second showing of Mamma Mia the Musical, Sadly this has cost DD considerably more than 2 weeks ago when we got the free tickets! If only we had a crystal ball she could have saved an awful lot of money. We enjoyed it so much last time we are still looking forward to seeing it again.
We did plan to eat out afterwards but we have decided to go straight back to DD's and order in a takeaway instead!
I have a few pottering jobs this morning but nothing too taxing.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Thinking of the poorlies, sad and convalescing. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all x
Dry but overcast here today. Tried to walk the hound but only got as far as the end of the road and she wanted to come home. Been that way since the poxy fireworks started.
WM on and nearly done. Quick flick round to tidy up and breakfast had.
DD2 is home early from a girls night out and DH is still in bed.
Need to make some bread today and decide what healthy meal we will be having tonight. Last night was cheat night and we had chips and far too many chocs.
Might make some soup for lunch as I have a load of carrots that need using up.
Have to shop later but not till DH is up so might be tomorrow lol
Anyhoo better shift myself and get on.
Hugs to all in need xBright Blessings xx0 -

Foot is feeling slightly better again so im hoping the jab has done its thing, TRU thanks for the info yesterday very interesting.
I have a towel load on a hot wash and will try and hang it out for a while today as so far its bright but windy.

At least its not raining, but the sky is an ominous grey colour.
We have a bit of an issue going on in our little cul-de-sac, our neighbour was taken to hospital last Monday, she came home Thursday night. I had seen her daughter Thursday afternoon, it appears her mother has stomach cancer and the out look is not good. I asked if the hospital had fixed up help and she said yes, I presume its the Macmillian nurses. They must also have contacted members of the family. We have a very small car park, just 3 of us have cars, but of course we get visitors. When I came home from Aldi yesterday the car park was full, I just managed to scrape in on the opposite side of the road in front of a friends house........Now I am not complaining but what I am saying apart from the three daughters who come every week, one stays with her mother most of the time, there are now 8 cars parked and they have been there for 48 hours........My friends son comes every other week to visit his mother, his wife had to get out of the car in the middle of the car park because the space he went into, the only one left, would not allow her to get out. He had to squeeze out. There is also a van parked in the ambulance space.
I understand that people want to visit, that is natural, but why all at once. Its only a two bedroomed bungalow, so heaven knows where they are all sleeping. For M's sake I would have thought it better to stagger the visitors. We have one neighbour who is very precious over his parking spot in front of his house. If he goes out and comes back to find his space filled, there will be a very unpleasant confrontation. He does not ask politely........the air will be blue. Sorry rant over.
I have been extra good, cooked beef stew for tonight, and the veg. Have also done the spuds for tomorrow and the shoulder of lamb has been studded with home grown garlic and is now marinading in red wine. I use the juices to make the gravy.
Jackie I am sorry to hear about your shoulder, I had the same thing earlier this year in my right shoulder, along with tenosynovitis in my left hand.......its very painful. Mine cleared up with Physio, just occasionally it tweeks to remind me to watch what I am doing. The teno cleared up after 8 weeks phsio which did nothing, The Dr gave me some anti inflammatories, it was gone withing the week.
So tonights supper, beef stew with veg.......banana for dessrt.0 -
Hello all
Last nights concert was a fabulous success. There was a local brass band, a ladies singing group and the school choir. We had renditions from "Proud Mary to the Rivers of Babylon" through to "Bonanza " and ending with the theme music from Jurassic Park. All proceeds ( £5 per ticket ) went to a young man who has brain cancer ( £300 was raised ) He had come in person and as it was his birthday we all sang " Happy Birthday " ..... he was 15 and bless him he was a bag of bones.
Anyway today I shall be making my xmas cakes, a bit late I know but haven't felt up to it before now. This morning I have already sorted through my xmas bag, which holds wrapping, cards etc from last year and I don't need anything this year :T
Sending healing vibes and hugs to those in need.
Take care all

Afternoon folks.
After a pretty rubbish day yesterday I have bounced back so well today. New physio, new ideas! I’ve been walking with two crutches, up and down the corridor and, just now, managed a flight of stairs both ways. :j I’m so happy after the problems of yesterday. The catheter was removed this morning which also helped lift my mood, along with getting to wear my own jimjams, though I’ve cut the sleeves as it’s so warm here.
JackieO - I really hope you feel better soon, I’m also in the camp of being a very bad patient, I know that all this enforced stillness is good in the long run..
TA - you will still enjoy tonight as it was a well thought out gift.
Tru - the allocation of stuff sounds very civilised!
Right, I may go back to bed. I’m looking forward to the sugariness of Blackpool’s SCD tonight.
My thoughts are still with those struggling along, with or without help from family or friends. Happy rest of Saturday to all.0 -
Afternoon all. Have done nothing but shower, drink coffee and watch films today. Everything is all ready at the moment, in terms of wood for the fire, stocked up cupboards, the tidy factor...feels like I'm all preprared so I can do nothing...I could do something but I'm still at a loss of things to do that actually mean anything beyond keeping the house running.I need a proverbial kick up the wotsits.
Jackie, hope your arm improves as quickly as you'd like it to but slow down anyway, for the sake of a couple of weeks to have it working again, is it worth pushing it too much? Gers, good to hear you're doing really well! Scarlet, hope your face is doing well....ruby, glad to hear the pain is ocntinuing to ease off. Nanny, same for you too and glad you could help someone who you met...TA, enjoy your night tonight! csarina, I would have thought her relatives don't really give a monkeys about the parking, but rather about her. God forbid they should inconvenience the neighbour for a week or two.Let him swear. AOD, I tend to creep around too if the OH is still in bed. I might have to reconsider that because by the time I get going it's the afternoon and then its too dark to do anything [or it feels like that, it is't but dark afternoons make me want to sit in front of the fire]. dumpling, good to hear you're doing OK, hope you continue with no pressureHugs to all who need them. Slothful Saurday
