Chipped Le Creuset safe to use?

One of my Le Creuset pans has chipped enamel on the inside, right down to the cast iron (my own fault, I put it on a solid ring that unbeknownst to me was hot, left it and the enamel went pop, literally).

Is it still safe to use?

  • I too have some Le Creuset that has chipped. I have never had a probelm with it at all, in fact it may add a little iron to your diet.

Unless you have an iron transit disorder which would mean the extra iron is harmful.

No disorders here (well apart from being terminally stupid with my pans.. ) but yesterday I was making cheese sauce for lasagne and I am sure black bits were flaking off the pan into my sauce, which scared me a bit.

Maybe I was imagining it, I'll give them another go.

Thank you very much for your help.:D

Why did your pan break on a hotplate, I thought you could use them on any stove top. I used mine for years on a solid hotplate, Although I have new stainless steel le creuset now, they are a bit lighter to lift.

    The pan itself didn't break.

I put the empty pan on my cooker, not realising that the ring I put it on had been switched on (it's a solid hob, so it wasn't obvious), I walked away and left it, the pan heated up so much that the enamel inside the pan literally went *pop* (I heard it), broke, and came away from the rest of the pan in a small patch.
