Good question!
Firstly, your doctor has seen your blood tests (I assume!) so they're going off that.
Secondly, the tolerable or safe upper limit per day for the general population - i.e. those who don't know for certain that they're deficient - varies depending on where you look; I've seen 4000, 8000, and 10000 IU quoted. But as I said, your doctor has prescribed it for you knowing your individual health situation, and once a week is very different from every day.
However in searching for megadose, the very lowest I saw quoted was 20000 and 25000 IU, with most of the results being 50000 or 100000 IU+
(Just out of interest, did your doctor recommend a certain brand?)0 -

Thanks for the info. It was prescribed, I have purchased some Vit D to take once these are finished that also has Vit K and Calcium in it, I was very surprised to find myself with an issue if I am honest, I haven't seen the doctor since the blood test, just received a text message to collect a prescription followed by a letter in the post telling me to take a different dose than that on the prescription - doesn't exactly fill me with confidence
ETA:Just checked and my dose is actually 2 x 20,000 but as you say is only once a week, may explain the muscle weakness/tiredness am experience though, can't think of any other reason for it."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Have a look at the relationship between magnesium, calcium and Vit D3.
Magnesium is something we are all probably deficient in and it is needed to aid the absorption of Vitamin D apparently.0 -
Some bottles of vitamin D talk of IUs and others measure in micrograms usually written as ug. So make sure you know which you are looking at because they are very different measures. For example 1,000 IU is 25 ug.0

Also, tell your doctor if you currently have, or have ever had, any of the following:
High or low blood pressure
Kidney problems and kidney stones
An immune disorder
Heart disease or other heart problem
Lung disorders
Thyroid problems
Liver disease
Frequent headaches
Stomach issues
Skin disorders
Musculoskeletal disorders
Your doctor would already know if any of the above had happened to you as it would be on their records.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know.
