EI systems PC + TFT monitor - £229.97

Options
Hi i was wandering if anyone could give me a little help in relation to the following: (sorry if this is in the wrong place. it is kinda a Grab it while you can..)

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1635424936.1196104467@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccekaddmjdhelmkcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=016725&category_oid=

PC world show in the image that a monitor comes with the PC base unit. Further to this, the page header states that it comes with a TFT monitor.

I reserved for collection at store, and after finding one about 50/60miles from where i live, i travlled to collect. Once arrived, i was told by thestore that no monitor was to be supplied at the price and that if i wanted one, i needed to buy it separately.

Now i spoke to the manager and to the call centre who deal with the website, each advising me they would not honour the deal even though i had printed proof that the item was due to come with a monitor.

does anyone know their policy in relation to photos/images? it does not say 'image for illustration purposes' anywhere.

Understandably there is no mention of a monitor in the product spec, but surely the fact the image and page header both suggest a monitor is included i should have some sort of recourse?

Any body suggest my next course of action? i needed to buy a PC so i had to pay £129.98 extra for a monitor in the end. Head office advised that they have had issues with this particular model and the website description and this was raised 5days ago...

I wouldn't be too !!!!ed off if i hadnt had to drive over 120miles and waste nearly 4hrs of my time not to get what i was being offered. Surely this is a mis-representation of their goods?

The store managers agreed it was mis-leading but refused to admit that it actually came included.

Anybody help please?

thanks,

proplusplus

pS) admitedly their argument that the price is low is valid, but at the same time, isn't that what a bargain or cheap PC is... a low price?!

The header does indeed suggest a monitor 'EI SYSTEM 207 DESKTOP PC and TFT Monitor from PCWORLD' and the image is of a 19" LG L194WT-SF Flatron Monitor as I have one sat infront of me. I would take this further at the very least they should offer some vouchers for your trouble. Keep at them and if you are not happy with the response from CS get their manager on the line and keep at them until they submit. It's worked for me before for £60 of vouchers + a 10% letter! Threaten them with Trading Standards etc. don't think this belongs on the bargain forums though....
  • thanks for the reply. I had bought a 19' standard monitor. Manager at call centre point-blank declined to offer.

they gave me the head office address, so i will write off tomorrow.

they offered to re-imburse me 25p a litre for petrol. but i'd prefer a free LG monitor as in the offer!

good to hear im not the only one who thinks it's mis-leading...

pS) it's kind of a bargain if it's on offer on their site ;) but i know what you mean. it's not clear where i should post something like this - so i do appologise.

Looks like they've updated the website partially, as the header doesn't mention a monitor.
But lower down there is a line which says "Full product information about EI SYSTEM 207 PC and Monitor Only" which implies the system should have a monitor.
At the very least you should complain to the CEO of DSG and copy your letter to Trading Standards. Make clear the effort you went to to collect your PC and how disappointed you are that they can be allowed to use false advertising in this way.
You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.
  • thanks,

that's pretty good to see. thanks for the update.

can anyone grab me a screen shot of this. i have no programmes here which'll let me paste onto anything!

    thx.

Ps) who is the CEO of DSG? and how do i get his address? is it just addressed to him at the head office address they provided me?
