getting stressed- mums 50th birthday

Im soooo stressed at the minute. My mum is 50 next week & she decided ages ago that she wanted a big party (i didnt realise how big actually!) Anyways she hadnt done nothing about organising anything, so it was left to stupid old me again- nobody has helped me do anything (hubby helped me make invites) they havent even offered to do anything & i know for a fact that nobody will even thank me for my efforts, makes me wonder why i even bothered in the first place. My brother is even more useless than anybody, after promising he was going to sort out a dj (he is a dj himself so thought that would be the best job to delegate to him!) but no, after months of asking him had he asked this friend & him promising me he had- turns out he had lied & hadnt even asked this person- so was left up to me to do that too- ended up paying extra (brother said he was cheap & would do discount rate!) The numbers for the party, a first draft of a list - that i did & my mum okayed, went with about 50, the revised list which she rang me with was over 80- this means the cost for food will be 400 pounds- as mum wanted a hotpot buffet (organised by me!) Everything is getting on top of me, i feel like crying & just did so before, i feel really put upon that nobody has asked me if i needed help with anything.

The other thing thats really annoyed me is the fact that people have took it upon themselves to invite people to the party that my mum doesnt even know- one couple told me their brother, his girlfriend & their nephew would be coming, another said his brother & his mother would be coming, plus ones etc fine, but not whole other families- i thought this was quite rude!

Sorry for the rant, and for it to be so long!

Carm down, we are here to listen/help . I would first be getting the bill under control and asking everyone that comes to pay a set fee towards costs, (per person). Hall and dj booked. Food to sort - have a buffet with finger food and paper plates/napkins. Bar - you need a place with a bar so folk can buy their own drinks.OK.

agree with Julie.
Its really not healthy getting stressed like this. WHY do you HAVE to do everything, and to their requests? If they are leaving it up to you, get a cheap buffet catering in, tell brother to sort out DJ as he will look a right stupid one if no one turns up, and tell the self inviting people that your very sorry but the caterers have been booked and paid for and the numbers cannot be increased this late and that you cannot afford it anyways.
Please dont stress like this. If your not going to get a thank you, why are you killing yourself trying to make it perfect? Sometimes, the hastily thrown together ones are the most fun.
