Could it be that your GP referred you via the wrong pathway? Obviously you haven't specified your specific health concern, so I'm not suggesting that this is what your specific case is, but as an example:
I used to work in a hospital where we held breast symptomatic clinics, this was where local GPs could refer patients under a '2 week rule' for suspected breast cancer, covering a range of symptoms. This referral pathway was NOT for people who already had a diagnosis and were seeking a second opinion/transfer of care, but sometimes GPs would refer those patients through the 'suspected cancer 2 week rule' referral and the referral would slip through. Sometimes the GPs mistake would be caught by administrative staff a little further down the line, after the symptomatic appointment had already been booked, and unfortunately the appointment would have to be pushed back for a variety of reasons, including consultants' waiting lists, delays waiting for other hospitals to send over previous imaging reports, etc etc.
Perhaps something similar has happened in your case? Your GP may have made an error in the initial referral. I do think the lady you spoke to on the phone should have been more helpful, because whatever's happened here it's ultimately not your fault that you 'jumped the queue'.0
