Underwriter issues with signature

Options
The underwriter for the bank I'm mortgaging via is complaining due to a mismatch in signatures between my official documents (passport, driving license) and some forms I have signed.

Obviously from their perspective they're making sure mortgage fraud isn't occurring; I'm wondering if anyone has had such issues and/or what you can do to prove legitimacy. Instinct is telling me there's more to it, maybe their appetite for issuing a mortgage offer isn't there? The whole chain is going to collapse if this isn't resolved, so I'm quite edgy.

I've provided certified copies of my passport and driving license and multiple times spoken the the mortgage advisor, going through security etc. and confirming all documentation was signed by myself. The funny thing is there's arguably considerable difference between the signatures on my passport and driving license :wall:

If the lender did not want to lend you the money, they just would not lend the money. They would not be looking for an excuse.

I have come across this twice in 6-7 years, both went through. I cant recall what I needed to do, they were both when I worked for a company so I cant even go and check the files. I think they just wanted a letter from the customer to say my signature has changed over the years, this is my new signature and for that letter to be certified by a solicitor or someone who had seen the ID and the person signing their name.

  • Thanks for the reply. That does make sense that they would just explicitly say, if they had no intention of lending.

I guess all I can do is see what they come back with and what options are available.
  • I had this with precise this year. They have a specific form for a new signature and for thr applicant to try do the old signature. Usually an explanation of 'this was a signature from when I was 18' will suffice
  • I guess my case is slightly difference, they're arguing over recent documents having different signatures.
  • Why at the signatures different? Start with that and see if they accept it. As said previously, they wouldn't make up an reason to not lend. They wouod just decline the case if they were going to do it.

So why is your signature different? Wanted a more professional one? In a rush that day?
Maybe ask if you can have a solicitor witness your signature to get round it

Start with giving them the explanation and they will usually tell you what they want from there

Any Lender is likely to query a difference in Signature.

As stated above, Lenders have lots of ways of not lending if that is the objective.

The most common one is they say ‘we don’t want to lend”.

  • Thanks all for the help, in the end they accept it using a certification service.
