    My first post!

My wife had a car accident the other day that didn’t involve anyone else at all or any injury. We told our insurers, QuoteMeHappy, who are the only ones besides ourselves who know about this, and this morning she got a call on her mobile from an “ambulance chaser” .
They said “we believe you’ve had an accident that wasn’t your fault.” They called her by her first name. The call came from 01452 068208. They were evasive about who they were. Needless to say we didn’t respond – but have QuoteMeHappy leaked this information? My wife is complaining to them now.
    Thanks for any advice.

Was the vehicle driveable after the accident or was it recovered by a recovery firm/garage?
  • Thanks for all your replies. No the car wasn't driveable. She phoned the insurance company and they arranged for it to towed away by the RAC and for a taxi to bring her home. Yesterday it was declared a write-off.

My wife has fired up QuoteMeHappy and they have promised to investigate how info was leaked/used and to get back to her mid next week. More then ...!
  • We had a minor scrape earlier this year (damaged whilst parked). Used the insurers' recommended repairer. All went well. Since then my mobile (which we gave to the repairer for contact) has been plagued with all sorts of calls - ambulance chasers, insurers, a physiotherapy outfit, even Virgin Mobile to sell my wife a new mobile contract.

The phone is mine but the car is my wife's. She is the RK and the insurance policyholder. Yet callers ask for her by name on my mobile number. Those details could only have been spread from the repairer. They are the only people to whom I gave my number when the business they were conducting was my wife's. I've complained to the repairer and the insurer but the damage is done.

The Data Protection laws are being breached wholesale by people like this.

We have a BT call screening home phone and are careful not to give our mobile numbers to insurance companies so we get no unwanted calls!

When I need to give a phone number but don’t want / need to be contacted i use an old (20 years old) employer phone number who I left on bad terms from.

I think I'd read ( on here?) of someone who says " yes, I was, and I was fatally injured in the crash!!!", then see what they say!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    Therefore:-

    - Insurers
    - RAC
    - maybe an intermediary between the above two
    - the garage/storage facility it was taken to
    - the engineer who inspected the vehicle to declare it a write-off and the firm he works for

That's my favourite line - might have been me who posted on here :-) "Yes, I was killed, but luckily I'm a Buddhist so I got reincarnated". For some reason they tend to put the phone down at that point :-)
  • I know that Tesco Mobile have sold details on as they are the only people bar immediate family that have my 10 year old’s phone number...
