A Bit Of Advice Please?

Hiya.. OK long story here, so here goes...

I'v got debts amounting to approx £7000
They are all unsecured
The details and status of them all follow

Lloyds debit card (unauthorised overdraft £250 per month interest, have several repayment plans, defaulted on all, are demanding full repayment, refusing to stop interest and charges, havent made a payment in 3-4 months, 4 - 5 letters a week, 10 - 20 calls a week, threatening court) TOTAL £3400

Llyods credit card (paying at £5 per month all interest and charges frozen) TOTAL £1000 :T

NHS (debt with control accounts plc, threatening court action immediately etc etc. have had a repayment plan with them, but defaulted, havent made a payment in 4 months, hounding me with calls and threatening letters) TOTAL £680

Simply be catalogue (mmp of £50, have not paid for 2 months, good payment history with these, applying charges of £12 per month, wants a payment of £70 now) TOTAL £500

LX Catalogue (with natiowide debt recovery now, had a repayment plan, but defaulted, asking for most of the £380 debt back immediately.havent made payment in 2-3 months.) TOTAL £380

Capital one (these !!!!!!s are charging me something like £35 a month interest, original debt of £200 with them, the debt is now £350, they are harrasing me with phone calls, up to 15 a day, letters are up to 5 a week, and they wont respond to my letters, wont acept repayment plan, want £200 minimum payment. havent paid in 3 months)

Littlewoods catalogue (havent paid in 3 months, charging me £12 a month interest, constant letters, no court action thretended yet, although they are demainding the whole amount back, have had a repayment plan with them, and are refusing to give another one)

Ok so there we have it. I have just started a great new job, as an apprentice, although for the first two years, i will only have £30 a month spare. i wrote to them all and offered payments to them if they froze interest and they all ignored or declined apart from my llyods credit card, which is now sorted. i am at my wits end. i have saught help from CAB, and the CCCS, but they both have said they cant help me other than write letters to them. I have tried this and have had no luck. im getting around 40 calls a week, and around 15 letters, all of which i ignore, (as im at work, and i did explain this on my letter!)

Iv been to several debt managemtne companies, who are all suggesting i go bankrupt.

I dont know what to do. the main one that is worrying me is the big llyods debt. i dont know how to deal with them any more?

Any help or advice is gretaly appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi

Not sure if this has been answered as your thread seems to have been posted twice -

Could I ask that you look at the newbies thread stickya t the top of the board and have a go at a SOA - listing you incomings and outgoings as then we'll fully be able to help with advice on any areas you could cut back on etc. If you've done this already on another thread - sorry :)

Also you could try giving one of the free debt companies a ring for free advice on it all (CCCS/Payplan).
    Welcome to the board!

Conor - I really don't think that your post is actually that helpful - perhaps you could edit it to be more understanding and supportive of the OP's situation. You don't know what kind of state they are in really and also the fact they are trying to make changes by coming on here should also be noted.

  • I cannot believe I just read that post from Conor. This forum is not so anyone can be judge and jury to a poster. We should be here to help. OP okay you have made mistakes but you appear to want to change things. There are lots of nice people on here who will give you useful and helpful advice. Although you may only have £30 to pay you can really put your mind to moneysaving and earning extra and get rid of this debt. Your original post is not making too much sense so do as SEA says and do a proper SOA and it can be looked at. Welcome.

You're defaulting on agreements and you've not made payments to most of them for months and you have no spare cash to pay anyone anyway. you can only set up a DMP if you've got something to pay with and £30 a month isn't enough.

In addition to that, you've now a history of failing to meet agreed repayment plans which shows a serious lack of commitment.

Bankruptcy is the best option for someone as !!!!less as you seem to be with money. I mean, come on. Lloydds gave you several chances to sort out a repayment plan and you still welched on it, likewise Littlewoods, NHS and LX. How can anyone setting up a DMP with you trust you to repay it?

I'm glad Conor you are debt free and on the way to clearing your mortgage, I hope at your lowest moment your were not spoken to in the way you have replied to this. Normally on the other threads people are asked for their SOA and then people show them how to reduce their expenditure or increase their income to give them more money available to deal with things. That gives a better idea of the position the person is in rather than just calling them names.

I hope you have a nice life.

Hi JoJo, I'd imagine that it took you a lot of courage to post here and welldone for doing so. Please please ignore the above post by conor. there are very few people on the boards as unwelcoming as this! We do not know the reason why your previous repayment plans were kept up with, maybe they were unrealistic in comparrison to your income.
You need to think seriously about your position right now and what wil be the best way forward for you.
Please please post your SOA as this is the best and easiest way for us to give advice.
and WELCOME to the DFW world.
    Big hugs

  • Hi everyone

To everyone apart from connor, thanks for your great help and sympatheticness.
    My incomings are £780

    My outgoings are
    Rent £380
    Food £100
    Personal debt to Mum £200
    Travel £70

    Spare of £30

If i had a realistic way of getting out of this date i could possibly reduce the payments to my Mum of £100 a month. The reason i defaulted was because i lost my job. I did tell all the companies immediately by letter, so it wasnt like i just sat backand waited for this to happen.

Im really at a loss as to what to do?

    Any advice greatly appreicated xx

  • Hi Jojo,

Is there any way you could get a 2nd job? Evening bar work for example?

I do think that maybe your debt to your mum will need to take a bit of a back seat for now. If you could maybe reduce what you pay to her by £100 and use that £100 to pay to your debts?

    Welcome to mse :)

  • joj I'm pleased you've posted again after Conor's (as ever) unhelpful post. Sadly the boards encourage all types and there are a few who are debt free & like nothing better than a bit of DFW bashing! They are a bit like the schoolboy bullies in school who like nothing better than to kck people when they're down. Sad really.
Anyway, could you ask your mum if you could delay paying her back for a bit? Any chance of getting more work - ie evening job or something like AQA to earn extra money? Anything you can sell on ebay?
I dont know much about becoming bankrupt but it would be the absolute last resort for me...do your family & friends know your situation? Its important that you get some support...big hugs for you.

  • aw thanks everyone..

Yeah iv got everyone on the case with helping me find answers. Im already trying to find an evening/weekend job, even if it is ASDA's!!

Unfortunately it is REALLY important that i pay her back, its not the kind of debt that i could just say yeah il pay you back £50 whenever iv got it. Although like i say i can maybe get it to take a back seat for a little while.

My catalogues and capital one debts, im sure i dont remember signing anything for them (they were all done online) does this mean that they wont take me to court.

My big Lyods debt is the one concerning me most. If i managed to sort out all the smaller ones, (higher chance) then what would happen with this one?

    Thanks x

  • If you owe them money then its likely they will take you to court! Trying the "didint sign anything so can I get away with it" rarely works. Its important that you take responsibiliy for what is yours, fight if its not yours and move on having learned the lessons in the process.
