Debtors Petition help filling in forms

These forms are hard work...

I'm on section 3.1. how detailed do I need to be? for fixtures and fittings do I need to declare bookcases (2 cheap ikea ones) etc and where it asks about freehold and leasehold land does this mean apart from my own home or is my home excluded from this question? Very confusing and I'm looking at the notes too.

Thanks.

  • If you're talking about ordinary domestic bookcases, you can just put 'None' there. Fixtures & fittings there refers to those who might for instance have had a shop or business unit, the business has now gone bust & they're selling off the stock, shelving, display cases etc. :)

As for the land question, I can't answer that one as I rent mine, but someone else will be along soon who'll be able to help on that. :)

The bookcases mentioned did belong in my business but can't see they're worth anything. I also have a table and chairs (again bought very cheaply at IKEA). That is the only F&F I have for the business.

  • Just put down 'None'. Ikea stuff doesn't have much of a resale value - if it did, I might have been able clear some of my debts flogging mine. :D

Thanks WDIAG. I've got so much to do before Friday. I'll be going to the RCJ so I'll just need to turn up and atleast it will all be done in one day. I'm planning on opening my Coop account while I'm down there as I'm sure I'll have some time to kill.

  • Don't forget to ring the PSU (Personal Support Unit) if you think you'll need help on the day - the number is 020 7947 7701 or 7703. You can find out more info about them here - they told me they need a day's notice. They're all volunteers & are really nice, & they'll accompany you around the court. Also, there's a CAB office in the main hall: I think it's on the left as you go into the main entrance hall. I suggest you ring up & make an appointment if you want to see them, as when I was last there it seemed to be quite busy. Info on the CAB office is here. The Co-op is about 15 minutes walk away - they can be a bit difficult if you haven't got an appointment, so make one well in advance.

Great thanks for all that info. Is that where you went BR? If so, what time do you think I'll be free to make an appointment at the Coop? I don't think I'll need the CAB by that point unless there is something I'm not thinking of??

  • Yes, that's where I was 'done'. ;) It's rather a maze, so if you're not going to use the services of the PSU, I'd get there in plenty of time to be at the payments office for 9.40am at the latest, as the queue grows quite quickly. The payments office opens at 10am, so by the time you've sorted out your fees & other paperwork (assuming you get there before it opens & are near the front of the queue) it'll be about 11.30am/12 noon by the time you've handed in your petition. I would make the appointment for 12.30 or 1pm at the latest. The RCJ will want you back in the afternoon to get your BR order & will then tell you to go to the OR's office, but the RCJ doesn't open after lunch until 2pm (please ring to double-check that, as I was last there in March), & even when you go back you'll be sat in a room waiting for ages until the registrar calls you. 2pm is the earliest they're going to want you back, so even if your Co-op appointment is 1pm, you should still be back at the RCJ in plenty of time, as it only takes about 15-20 minutes to do the account paperwork. :)
