O/S Daily Thursday 7 November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark, raining and laying water everywhere as it's been raining since sometime during the night. Cooler too.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was hunters chicken, mash and veg. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but will organise this morning.

I'm now on days' off until Saturday (I'm now working to help someone out) but I'm then off for the following week.

Yesterday work was quite quiet although we have a new process for something we haven't done before - and we don't really have enough staff to manage it properly but hoping it won't be so time consuming once we get used to doing it.
So a good while yesterday morning was taken up with doing the new process for a customer.

So on to today -
I'll be heading into town to visit the building society and the bank, then home to tackle the washing, drying and housework.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Hope Baby Snoozer is well this morning.

I was at a friends last night for what I thought was a tea but turned out to be a 3 course meal! Lovely but not what I was expecting and was rather full at the end of it. Good to catch up with a couple of other folk I haven't seen for ages.

No swimming this morning, need a rest as it's been a busy week. I offered to help the Guides this evening with some sewing so will be out again, roll on tomorrow!

Hope you're resting and doing as you're told dumpling, we want you back here in full health!

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC, No frost this morning, instead we have rain! But at least it feels less cold.

Just been catching up on yesterday's thread and I see congratulations are in order for SNOOZER. I hope the baby is soon back home with his mum and dad.

I was up and at 'em silly early this morning. DD and I are off over to the caravan site to make a start shutting up. We are late this year but RL gets in the way. It's hard work dismantling all the chairs and table to cram in the 'van, along with tv and stand, lamps etc. Not an inch of space left when we are done. There will be the usual bowls of salt everywhere to attract any damp over the winter. Then DD's bf will go over at the w/e to get the awning carpet up, take the awning down and get the van and decking covered and put to bed for the winter. Maybe I will feel more like staying there next year but this year all my memories of happier times there have been too raw.

I have just got a pan of Bolognaise on the go for tonight's Pasta Bake, as the DGDs will be here as usual for late tea. Nothing has to get in the way of that or my name will be mud!

We had a nice Golden Girls bus trip out yesterday. Otley won the toss. St Gemma's where everything is 99p was our first stop. I spotted a lovely black and white tunic top and a silk scarf for 50p also tempted me. After my clear out of books I was strong willed and didn't buy any more until my stockpile goes down a bit! Lunch was enjoyed and we put the world to rights over a bottle of wine.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. DUMPLING nice to read your update. Thinking of TRU and family and the MIA> Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone.

This morning I've got an appointment with the GP. I've registered as a temporary patient to cover me post-op. I need some more pain killers to last me until next week.

At 12 noon I have my pre-op assessment, after that it will be a quiet day.

The new cleaning company have allocated a cleaner who will start next Tuesday. That's another tick on my list.

My thoughts to all, Happy Thursday too.

Brrrr seems very cold here this morning I think there might be a frost, There was a slight one yesterday Morning.

Off to work for me but the weekend is getting ever nearer only two more days !

Jacket sweet potato tonight with ham cheese and salad so nice and easy. I also need to do a wash.

Snoozer what lovely news cant wait to hear his name, hope all is well xx

Dumpling make sure you rest and do as you are told madam ! xx

Better dash have good days all xx
  • Good morning, it's wet and gloomy here, as expected.

Congratulations Nonna Snoozer, I hope the baby quickly recovers and is home soon. I'm Grandma, I'd never thought about that song!!

I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped yesterday, but hope to catch up a bit today. The Christmas cake ingredients are all measured and the tin is ready, so at least that will be done this morning.

Glad you had a good day out TA, that St Gemma's shop sounds nice.. Shutting the caravan
up is a depressing business I know. Ours is a tourer, so slightly different, but we lift all the seat cushions, leave all the internal doors open, including wall cupboards, and I put those humidity attracting things all over - never thought of salt.
It's totally understandable that you haven't wanted to stay there, as you say, maybe next year.

That's it from me, hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of Tru's Fil,, Dumpling and of course baby Snoozer.

    Take care folks

    Morning :hello:

Hester I hope Steve's meeting went well x

    snoozer Congratulations! :j

I hope you feel better soon Gintot x

I have nothing to do! I usually keep on top of things anyway but this week I've made sure things are done straight away. If we have to rush out with a seconds notice, I need to know that everything is done so it's easy to grab the things we need, or just that when people turn up here, it's tidy and there's plenty of clean mugs, etc. I don't think I need to go so over the top really, it's just that there is absolutely nothing I can do to help anyone so I can at least be a sofa and tea provider in a clean and tidy house, lol.

Nobody seems to be talking about the inevitable, so yesterday morning I went through MSE's what to do when someone dies guide. Some of it isn't relevant to FIL but I wrote a list of the things that are, then hid the list with the money that I've stashed away (in case of needing a taxi, car park charges, cafe spends etc). I wasn't going to mention it until I had to, but mr tru came home from work and said SIL had written a list of things to do when FIL dies – and she did it at the same time as I did :D She's probably feeling the same as me at the moment so is busying herself with organising.

So there's not much for me to do today. We'll go for a walk and maybe a play down at the park – if Scamp is feeling confident enough, lol – then I'll get some work out to do. I'm not in the mood really, I'll probably end up shuffling paper around then putting it away again, lol.

  • Good morning,

    Snoozer - Congratulations!!

I stayed late last night at work, till about 7.15, which gave me enough time to get home and make some dinner and I was on the couch for an hour before I went to bed.

No gym this morning as I genuinely accidently turned my alarm off instead of snoozing. I've brought my gym stuff with me so might nip in after work but I'm keen to get home, make my dinner, call my gran and get ready for the football. Neck is still giving me some pain, which seems to be worse in the morning. My mums asked me to order her somethings from Amazon, so I'll do that today whilst I'm out at lunch getting a hair cut. Busy little day ahead.

TA - I underestimated the work required to pack away a caravan for the winter. A big task not to mention the emotional side of it, too
Tru - You seem to have a very sensible approach. Sofa and cuppa suppliers are underrated.

Morning all. We had an unexpected knock at the door yesterday, a homeless man looking to do odd jobs to put money towards a studio flat, so he left with two pairs of jeans, a shirt, a jumper , a scarf, a pair of gloves and 12 pounds. Even if he was scamming [ we'd never seen him before, and I asked about the shelters etc] then hopefully he's a bit better off today than he was yesterday.
Fa club was disappointing in that I weigh now exactly what I did when I first joined a year and ahalf ago, but hey ho, I can work on it now...The leader is having a tough time too, she's in the same boat...happens to us all I suppse.
Tea round OHs mothers was lovely though, toad in hole, baby potatoes and peas. And the sausages were lovely.
Today I am deciding whether or not to go for a blood test [ it can be done toorrow as well though], have stich n'!!!!! tonight, and may sort out the toms by ripeness. There are three or four bowls to sort out [ never got round to making the sauce the other day].
Can't see me doing much today to be honest..

TA, it's hard when you have memories to sort out from mudane jobs...hope you're doing OK...dupling, lovely to hear you're home and being looked after, hopefully you'll keep improving! Gers, good to hear your mother is doing more and more, mabe the initial diagnosis threw her a bit and now she's bouncing back a bit. And gold stars for being so organised!...tru, good thinking! Scarlet happy christmas cake-ing! Hope everyone is doing as well as, nanny, holy, nelski etc :) Teas up Thursday!

I'm a bit late as I couldn't get my laptop to boot up, cue over to Mr Fix it. I knew that he would come in handy, someday:rotfl:. ( Nearly everyday lately ! )
I have stripped the bed and I've done a wash which is on the line and the bedding is in the WM now, but I don't know if anything will dry outside. I need to put the heating on about tea time ( Mr Fix It seems to get very cold about 4pm ) so I will drape the washing around upstairs, 2 birds/one stone :T
This afternoon I shall hoover/dust the bedroom properly as I'm ashamed to say that it has had a lick and a promise while I was so poorly. I'm still not out of the woods yet but things have settled down for now. I suppose losing over half a stone when I couldn't eat properly is a good thing too.
I have to remake the bed later and if I don't run out of steam, I need to sort out my freezers as I have forgotten what's in there. I want to start using up some stuff as they both need defrosting and then I can start getting some Xmas stuff. I found 2 portions of HM corned beef pie in there yesterday, so that's tea for today along with some HM wedges.

Snoozer I hope the DGS comes home to his family very soon, safe and well. Btw we're Nanny and Bumpy.
Hester if you're reading I hope today goes well for you and Steve.
TA hope the van wintering goes well today. ( we did ours earlier ) It's a lot of work and you get to do it all again in reverse next year
Tru Good on you and SIL for being pro-active.
Well the WM has finished so I will love you and leave you. Hugs to all today.
    Take care
    nan xx
