Proud, some small glimmer of light

Since the beginning of October, Hubby and I have managed to reduce some of our debts...not alot but enough. We have paid of two outstanding Council Tax Bills, so we are no longer in debt.Paid £400 off our current Council Tax bill, and reset DD up, so we are now back on straight and narrow with that.Paid chunk off doorstep loan, now only have £240 to go on this, which we are overpaying on, so will be paid in Jan.Started to make a dent in our Gas arrears, after having a meter installed.Paying off our electric arrears at £50 per month, which also covers any future bills.Have contacted one of our major creditors to get a Loan paid off and are offering £25 per week, been paying this since Sept, so paid a good amount of that....Some of other creditors, we have not acknowledged, simply because the 6 years will soon be up on them and they are slowly rolling off our Credit File.Just the big one, Egg a £10k loan with 9K outstanding(due to charges) to face, but we have said, when the others are paid off, such as the doorstep loan etc, we will chuck all our spare money at that one.It must be working, I applied for a Basic Account last year with Natwest, and was declined....went into my Bank the other week, and have only a Basic and a Savings account with them (which is empty lol), and they gave us a Current Account, no overdraft, but a Debit card and a Cheque Book....oh the relief at finally have someone trust in us financially!!!

It is nice when you're given things we used to take for granted! I have banked with NatWest for years, was demoted to a basic Solo card account, but was recently upgraded & sent a Switch card through the post...AND they've let me have a credit card too!

Well done, it's so nice when you see life changing and feel a lot more in control. I know how i felt when i lived within my means for the first time for years. A small milestone but no less important.
    Celebrate you achievements.

Well done. Fingers crossed your other creditors fall into the 6 years statute barred ruling! Good luck with the rest of your debt free journey.

  • Good luck with your progress. I find that there's nothing so good as the feeling of making a payment towards something. It's usually just such a relief to get it off your back.

I'm onoe of Natwest's basic customers too! Ha ha! I can't trust myself with a cheque book so not surprisingly they don't either!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
