house not selling , keen to buy in France

Hi we are wanting to buy a house in France ours in UK is up to sell however nothing seems to be selling we was looking at ways to get the ££ were also mortgage free, No loans, no credit owed kids all gone ? We feel equity release is not appropriate, Our bank won't agree mortgage as were semi-retired which leaves a bridging loan which I am told have high interest rates any ideas !!:
