Car Finance charges-Help Needed!!!

HI

I bought my car through Close Motor Finance almost 4 years ago. In January my agreement was due to finish. I have just phoned them for the final date and been told I still owe £1200 in late payment charges :eek:

I fell behind with payments a couple of years ago and despite repeatedly contacting them to try an make arrangements to catch up the charges just kept being added on.

I dont have the money or a credit card to pay this off, does anybody have any ideas on how I could get the ammount reduced????

Hi G_B - Car Finance Companies are a real pain. It is possible that you may be able to 'claim back' any 'late payment' or other 'penalty' charges that have been applied to your 'agreement' in the same way that charges can be claimed back from credit cards or banks. Have a look at the 'Reclaiming Bank Charges' Board.
You could also talk to one of the Debt Counselling Charities, such as National Debtline, or CCCS (Links at top of page) where you will get free, professional and impartial advice.
