I think I'll go with "Forty" seeing as the rings are mentioned 8 times in the entire carol.0

Yes, I think robmachete is right. The question is:
In the Twelve Days of Christmas carol, how many ‘golden rings’ are mentioned?:
NOT In the Twelve Days of Christmas carol, how many ‘5 golden rings’ are mentioned?:
"5 golden rings" is mentioned 8 times so the answer is FORTY0 -
I have a feeling that you're over thinking this.
The song mentions five gold rings, that's it. It doesn't ask you to add them up, just how many are mentioned. If you overthink it, then you're getting the wrong answer. You could argue that it mentions gold rings 8 times, but that would still be incorrect (although not an option here).

Actually you may be right, too much thinking. I would go with FIVE.0

I think I'd go for forty with it being an option personally but it's certainly difficult!0
-
Why would they give 40 as an option? If they want the correct answer to be 5 I'd say they would give you 4.5.6 as options0
