Monthly Pay - need some explanation please?

Hi guys, my first post here and I hope someone can help me out!

I've received my first pay for my new job which is my first job on a monthly pay basis.

So payday today is 31st October and I've received a figure I wasnt expecting... what period of time have I been paid for if I started employment on 24th September and have already worked overtime in 2 of those weeks?

I'm on a 16hr per week contract but in the week after induction and opening of the shop, I did 34 hours that week and 24.75 hours the week after.

Is there a cut off date for overtime that I'll get in my next payment or should I bring up this issue today at work? I don't want to seem dumb to my manager but I recieved less than expected as I would have though that I'd be paid for the week commencing 23rd Sept to the week ending 20th October as that is 4 weeks?

Thanks in advance

Yes there will be a cutoff - perhaps a Friday, say Oct 18th. Your payment today will be Sept 24 - Oct 31st at standard rate plus whatever overtime you worked Sept 24 - Oct 18th.

You may also be on a temporary Tax Code which may be significant

As you have never been paid monthly before it won't seem dumb to your manager if you ask for an explanation of the system. There will be a cut off date for overtime but only your employer will know what date they use.

    You need to know.

The pay period : the dates used to calculate regular pay
The extras period : the dates uses to add extras(these could be different)
The pay days : the day the pay is due.

It's also possible you have received a full months basic pay this month and next month payroll will adjust everything to remove any overpayment for days you didn't work and then add on overtime. It will all settle down after a few months.

Different employers use different cut off dates and pay periods so only they can tell you. If it's monthly paid you may get slightly more than 4 weeks at a time otherwise there would be 13 pay dates in the year rather than 12. It's not dumb to ask if you haven't been told and it's not in any paperwork you have been given.

Have a look through the company handbook, specifically in relation to salary, as it will say when the payroll cut off is, it will also cover overtime, how it's calculated and the cut off date for that.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Read your contract carefully, it should be written in great detail
