I think what you've done is worth a roll of the dice. They may follow up on it, they may not.

The HMRC machine is not the "all seeing eye" they'd have us believe.

Do update with the outcome :)

    I will do.

I did change jobs, so if HMRC “sent the boys round” now, I’d have the money to pay.

When I was reading very worrying responses on the internet and thought I would end up in a prison cell, my accountant laughed and said that often HMRC are responding, an easy and effective way of putting the fear of god into people. Don't know if it's true but things were ok for me.
Good luck Hodd, we are imperfect people living in an imperfect world.
My accountant also told me if I felt guilty think of some very big owers who walked away having clearly milked companies dry to the millions. Wont quote the one here he mentioned. Then there was the guy who had spent all the CT on Paddy powers he was fine.....:)
Seriously, we are the little people.
    Hope all goes well.

😀 If I had my time again, I’d be more sensible (as I am now). I wouldn’t like to be in this situation within a year or two of retirement, for example.

Internet scaremongering is fairly common although bemusing. I asked if anyone else had been in this unfortunate situation, and the replies to that question were helpful and informative.
  • Well you have signed and publicly filed a form on Companies House which is not true. You've signed it despite not doing what is clearly spelt out on the form.

Obviously the risk of this being enforced is quite low as you are small fry, but at the end of the day you have paid yourself an unlawful dividend without paying your creditors, you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you were asked to pay that back (with interest and costs).

What’s your experience of this if I may ask?

He may have valid input which would add weight and context to his replies hence I asked for his experience of this.
