xLuckyAsh's will be unable to post Magazine Dailies for a while see their post here:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/76424126#Comment_76424126
I was wondering, would it be worth reintroducing a dedicated Magazine Dailies thread? Something like we used to have: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5774535/magazine-dailies-competition-thread-updated-regularly
Or done differently, depending what folk think?
This could be on a temporary basis, if xLuckyAsh is happy to continue posting them next year. Or a permanent thing, again, depending what folk think.
OK, I've thrown the gauntlet. Over to you guys to discuss.

I used to use the old thread daily and thought I would really miss it when it went. However I don't miss it at all, I find it just as easy to enter without. just using the page in the regular comps and opening all the ones I want to enter from there. I completely bypass the comps when they are posted on the main board. It seems an awful lot of work for someone and to me now, it seems totally unnecessary.0

I don't understand why they need a regular poster. Any other competition (with the exception of subscriptions that are paid for) can be posted by whoever spots them first. I fail to understand why mag daily competitions should be any different, since they are no longer linked to a thread.0

Thanks guys, good points.
I see 2 advantages in posting each new comp somewhere:
1) Sharing answers.
2) Finding new comps quickly and easily, without us each having to search separately every day.
Having said that, as you say, it is a lot of work for one person to be responsible for, which is why I would go for a MD thread, where anyone who wants to can post any new MD comp they spot.
I'm not really sure about it though. What I am sure about is that it is worth taking the time and trouble to discuss it and hopefully agree on the best way forward. I hope we might get more comments, including from those who post MDs.
The best system might become obvious. If not, perhaps we should then open a poll? If anyone wants to do that, feel free. I suggest including an end date so the thread isn't bumped after it is done with by anyone voting too late.

I agree sharing answers is useful. I think they should all be on the main board. No need to link to a thread and posted by whoever spots them first. I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to dip in, but they wouldn't want to take responsibility for doing them all.
However if anyone wants to take over the list I made and link them, like they the thread you have linked to above, then they are welcome to fill their boots.0 -
Thanks Marg - I agree with you and thanks for sharing your pearls.

I expect more people will add their thoughts in the week. A lot of people come on here in the week, but not at the weekends.0

As a previous maintainer of the Mag Dailies list I thought I would add my opinion ( for what its worth ! )
A list of mag daily magazines was kept along with their live links and answers in the Regular Competition section. This was updated usually daily and this master list was dependent on between 2-4 forum members who agreed to check and post new competitions from certain mags and THEN transfer the comps to the end of the mag dailies thread. I would then pick up the links and answers and transfer them to the 'master' list.
As the number of competitions increased ( to as many as 30 comps in some mags) this became increasingly onerous and boring for both the main board posters and for me. It really did take a lot of time.
It became almost impossible to find anyone to maintain the master list so it had to be dropped in favour of posting each comp with its answers on the main board alone plus a simple list of links on the Regular Competitions page to each of the magazines ( thanks Marg2k8).
The idea was that everyone would be aware of the comp and the answer but might have to remember the answers or refer back to the post on the main board.;)
At present this job has relied on 2 posters who have done a wonderful job. It has always been difficult to find people who are able to commit to this as it is a daily task. ( I dont think anyone has stepped forward to help xLuckyxAshxWinsx while she has a problem)
There has always been a lot of discussion about the best way to post the mag dailies. I cant offer an easy solution. It did become clear that a master list was only being used by a small number of people so it was felt it did not justify the amount of time and effort.
Many people who enter the mag comps each day maintain their own lists and work from them finding their own answers (not usually difficult)
It would be interesting to see if anyone can come up with a solution.
Meanwhile thanks to all those who have been involved with the mag dailies past and present and especially to xLuckyxAshxWinsx and hope she gets her computer problems sorted soon.0 -
As one of the majority who doesn't do them the solution is simple
Daily entry competitions with prizes shared across sites - treat them like the C2Ws and iWons and just retain the post linking to the sites.
Simple answers, usually not large prizes, only entered by a minority of people (and the list was used by even fewer people) so save the majority of people time and reduce the risk of missing a decent competition by not having the less than stellar MD competitions posted individually.
However although I don't do them I tend go along with competitions being posted in one place (main board) and if people want to post them there then they should but, particularly the iWon sites, have some prizes that are exclusive to just a site or open for only one day so really they should be up for posting before considering MD.0 -
Thanks for all replies and views.
I am more and more coming round to what Marg said in post#3. Perhaps it need not be an 'all or nothing' thing. If we treated them the same as other competitions, my guess is that many, most, or all would probably end up posted individually on the main board, but with no person taking responsibility for posting them.
It may mean that some of the smaller prizes may not be posted, but then, anyone who wants to, can find these themselves, as with the C2Ws and others.
To me, this feels like the best compromise solution, all round.

I did a year of maintaining the list and can concur, it's a tedious job.
Nowadays I just search for (MD) in the main forum and work through them that way, and then bookmark them.0
