Hi
My Bankruptcy was approved in August, then this month a received a letter from Yorkshire bank saying I was in arrears by £13.42. They have given me 28 days to pay this. I spoke with someone at citizens advice, that told me to ignore it. I’m paranoid that someone will knock on my door wanting the money. I’m not sure whether just to pay it, for peace on mind. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi,
You are bankrupt, you are not allowed to pay your creditors anything, and they certainly have no remedy against you, you are been a tad paranoid, no one will be knocking on your door, it’s just a standard letter, one of many you may yet receive, you must have had a fair old amount of debt to concider bankrupcy, so worrying about a paltry £14 quid is a bit strange isnt it ?

I assume this debt predates your bankruptcy, or have you run it up since? Unlikely I think.
As sourcrates says, you'll probably get several letters like this - sometimes it's because of inefficiency in updating their records and sometimes companies just try it on, thinking that people will not realise that they're not allowed to repay this money. I presume some people do pay as otherwise the companies wouldn't think it's worth their while.
When I've had letters like this I reply with a copy of my bankruptcy order which generally puts a stop to it. You might even get an apology!!
Or just ignore. The debt was cleared with your bankruptcy and you don't owe them a penny.

Were they included in your bankruptcy application (did you have an overdraft with them or something?). Is the account still open and in use, or closed? If not then, unlikely, but perhaps they aren't aware of your bankruptcy status. Certainly don't pay it. Reply or give them a ring.
Anyway, it's the first letter. Many months will go by before they take any action, and for that sort of money, I doubt they'd consider instructing a debt-collector for one second. Paying the collector would cost more than the debt!
Don't worry, be happy!0 -
It's probably just a letter sent by an automated process which hasn't had its records updated to show you went bankrupt. As others have said ignore it0
