They will contact you direct, try not to worry!
  • I'm sure they will contact you directly, but for your own peace of mind ( judging by your post, and completely understandable) I would call the surgery tomorrow. I'd be really surprised if you explained your situation ( very nicely!) if they didn't give you an appointment as requested. If they still won't, ask if the GP can call you and then hopefully from there, the GP will make the appointment as required.

Previous experience has taught me the hard way that although everyone in the NHS is doing their best and wants the best for you, there is a lack of communication between departments and you need to be proactive when chasing results etc - but always very nicely!

Hope it all turns out to be nothing to worry about.

Thanks. I try not to worry but it's not that easy. I feel a bit better now. I'd probably still have to go through surgery though.

I've been there (twice), the first time I got my call I had also been for a job interview and when they called to say I'd been successful in getting the new role my new boss said I didn't seem that pleased/excited, I explained I was waiting for a more important call and had other things on my mind. Best wishes! Jim.
  • Call back and ask if your GP could at least phone you - explaining that you've been told by the hospital that you needed an urgent appointment in 7 days from when scan was done and you're very concerned. (You've probably already explained all that, but try again) Honestly, be very nice, but persistent...it's the only way and you're only asking for a phone call.
Best of luck and I hope you're stress levels aren't too bad.

Also let me know that you would like to speak to the the GP that sent you for the scan if that is possible.
Not sure why they cannot do this, unless this GP is booked so far in advance.

Normally if suspected cancer is found on a scan then the GP will normally be in touch pronto to get you on a fast track referral.

In my case I went for a routine scan on my liver. Radiologist found polyps on my bladder and told me to see my GP in a few days once he had the report. I had no need. 10:30 the next morning my GP phoned me to tell me that they wanted to fast track refer me. Its just a pity that it was never explained what fast track was. I had to find out from the hospital admissions policy that it is only used for suspected cancer which came as a hell of a shock.

Had an appt with a urologist within a week followed by a TURBT. Biopsies confirmed the cancer. 6 months later and I still haven't had a clear cystoscopy, still some bits keep being found.
