Can I use White vinegar as Rinse Aid?

I've got 5 litres of the stuff and no rinse aid left. I don't really want to go buy more if the white vinegar would work.

  • Yes, you can use it. A quick goggle should tell you the correct amount to use.

However, I do believe that long term use of vinegar can damage the seal so it's best left as a stopgap rather than a permanent switch. Of course, this might simply be a rumour started by the likes of Unilever in a bid to put the fear of God into people and keep them shelling out!

I've been using distilled white vinegar instead of fabric softener for years. Clothes don't smell of vinegar, don't have that 'greasy' feel that some fabric softeners leave, and the washing machine dispenser drawer is spotlessly clean.

No problems with the door seal.

Hope it doesnt damage the seal.
I use white vinegar and a few drops of lavender essential oil instead of fabric softener as I live in a very hard water area. Figured it would help prevent limescale plus my clothes come out really soft and smell nice too.
  • I have used white vinegar for several years in my washing machine and never had a problem with the door seal, so I can't see it would hurt to use in a dishwasher ,but there again my dishwasher is a bowl of hot soapy water in the sink and my two hands so I couldn't really say for sure :)
