I do not have the £680 to pay fee for bankruptcy....

Hi All

£27,000 credit card debt and no money to pay fee of £680 to declare bankruptcy....

My life turned upside down when my 44y old dear Wife got diagnosed with grade 4 incurable brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme in September 2011. She was given a life expectancy of 15 months. She is still alive 8 years later but can deteriorate at any time and pass away. Doctors told me to keep her happy and busy and ensure she is never upset which will restart her growth.

The diagnosis gave her a personality deficit which made her get a buzz out of buying unnecessary buy one get one free items. If I objected, she would get into a mood and throw a tantrum in front of others. Out of love for her, I got myself into £27,000 credit card debt over the last few years. I have been burying my head in the sand and have been asking for 30 day holds for the last 2.5 years or so. The credit card companies have been ever so nice to me after hearing of my situation but this can't continue forever.

I have finally woken up to the reality of my situation after doctors said that the chemotherapy that has worked for the last 8 years is no longer effective and we must try another chemo capsule. I fear losing my Wife and need to urgently sort this out before she passes away.

I have asked family and friends to help me by doing a collection but it has fallen on deaf ears as they are in a financial mess themselves.

I have tried asking citizens advice to help me get help from charities but they have a two month waiting list to be seen.

I am writing this with tears in my eyes as cannot see any way out of this mess.

Can anyone please advise me on how I can get help to pay the £680 bankruptcy fee?

I am in receipt of Income Suppport as a Carer and get Carers allowance too. Wife is in receipt of full rate PIP.

Thank you for all of your help.

If you haven't already stop repaying creditors and none essential bills, use the saving made here to save for BR fee.

If you have an overdraft, open a new account and switch salary and essential bills over

Also there are charities which can help try those list on https://debtcamel.co.uk/help-with-bankruptcy-fees/ although there is almost certainly more demand than supply
  • I second - stop paying all non-essential debts (things like council tax and income tax, of course continue). No point paying the credit card, and apart from a letter or two I doubt they'll start any legal proceedings for many months, by which time you'll be bankrupt.
