Taking holidays and days off

Hi this is my first post. After searching the web . This site was coming up a lot with close, but not quite the answers I was looking for so thought I’d give it shot and start a thread
Hope everyone is having a nice day
I’m having a bit of trouble with my work. I’m on a ten hour contract but I get about 45 hours a week despite this which is awesome lol. I’m not complaining.
But when it come to my holidays. If in a working week I request 2 days off as part of my holidays. Should I get 4 days off? Aka my 2 days holiday and my 2 days off that I’m normally off. Every week I get 2 days as normal. Sometimes 1 (every blue Moon when it’s very busy)
The problem is whenever I take holidays. I expect my holidays plus my days off but I only ever seem to get my holidays off and I’m left wondering why. I’m often told ‘oh it’s a busy week you wouldn’t have got days off that week anyhow’ but it’s too much of a coincidence that that only happens when I take holidays.
Am I entitled to my regular days off ontop of my holidays I take
To clarify. If I take Monday and Tuesday off as holidays. Should I get a two days (or even one) day off as a regular day off within that working week

Yes you should get days off as standard mixed in with holiday.
When my employer who is a 7 days a week business picked the best week to have off they set the rota to look like this
Mon - off
Tues - off
Weds - hol
Thurs - hol
Fri - hol
Sat - hol
Sun - hol
Hours total 0 (most other places would put hours in but I notice this current employer displays zero if someone has holiday)
Mon - off (as new week)
Tues - off
back to work with 6 shifts before next rest day off. Was fortunate to have next two weeks of rota issued whilst on holiday.0 -

A few clarification questions - are you an employee, self employed, agency or consultancy?
Is your 10 hours on set day(s)?
What does your contract say about overtime? e.g. Is it compulsory?

I work for a high street shop owned by a franchise so what I meant is it could be worse.0 -

My days off change every week. I’m usually off 2 days together. But some weeks my 2 days off are split up and other times due to staff shortage I’ve been asked to work 6 days and lose a day off.
I’m not sure what it says about overtime. I think my contract said I’ll be required to work hours given which I guess is very cheeky of them. I was desperate for the job at the time so I took it
I don’t get overtime pay. In that situation I mentioned when I’m asked to work 6 days I just get paid my normal hourly rate for the extra day I did.0 -
When I book annual leave, I only book the days I am scheduled to work. Usually, I sandwich my annual leave dates either side of my two days off, which are consecutive days. This then makes my time off feel 'longer'0

In that case you need to tell them not to book you any extra time for the week you book your 10 hours off. Might be worthwhile joining a union beforehand that looks after retail workers as the franchisee seems to be taking advantage of you.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Statutory holiday is 5.6 weeks.
When you book a week off you should get a week off.
If you are regularly working longer hours you have to work then the holiday pay for the week off should be the same.0
