If a competition states to send in a sealed envelope - should the note still be on a postcard inside said envelope?

I didn't realise i could do AIOE with Data comps which is great. Can i just put several papers with my details and the name of the comp in to one envelope, or do people put postcards in??
Also do you just put the main address on the envelope?
