Loan in Portugal for foreign people
Hi everyone!
I've looked for this piece of information in the forum before posting this but I couldn't find anything relevant. I'm from Guatemala, I have a working holiday visa only for Portugal -it is not for any other EU country- I have a work contract for 3 months that will be renewed when it finishes. I don't have anything to prove it, just my boss word, but as it is a serious company, I believe this will happen. I am an engineer but what Im doing right now is a bit under-skilled. What I need is a simple personal loan to invest in a car, it will help me the time I spend here in the country. I do have plans to stay for at least one more year. Do you know any trustfull entity to ask for a loan? Low taxes or at least non variable ones?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

It is highly unlikely that you would get a loan without a permanent work permit. In any case, no-one needs a car: the bus service in Portugal is very good, or you could invest in a bicycle.0

You will be best finding a Portuguese forum to ask as this is UK based.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0

Bicycle are always a good choice, but don't forget the ups and downs that you find in Portugal. I don't think the cities are well prepared for bicycles.... Maybe (s)he lives in another city different than work. Idk, I'm just guessing.0 -

Well, I normally find all sort of answers in the forum, so I tried to ask sth this time, don't blame me.
There's only one train line that takes me to work, and I usually have to wait for an hour to com back home. Moving downtown is not an option right now because housing in Portugal is getting crazy.
Anyways, thank you all for your help and your time replying!0 -
If you don't have any kind of contract, it is very hard, as banks in Portugal will ask you for proof of income including last years income. So you will have to show you "IRS form" to prove your income from last year.
Good luck with that.0 -

Good luck with that.
And being "fresh off the boat" makes it hard enough to get a bank account, let alone a personal loan. With a three month contract that won't necessarily be renewed (as far as the bank is concerned) and someone who isn't even from the EU (where chasing the debt would be a little easier in general) I agree that the OP needs a lot of luck.0
