This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning all
Im really supprised we have not been started off yet I hope you are all having a good sleep.
Nice sunny day here so I have stripped the beds and got them on a hot wash its quite blowy too so should dry well today.
We peeled and salted one bowl of the onions last night for pickling my goodness they were strong, im going to attempt to do the rest this morning but our eyes were streaming so might have to do them a few at a time, should make for some good pickles for xmas though.
Im going to get my soup on this morning too and prep the dinner hopefully if I get time I will get out for a walk with the pup its such a nice day.
This afternoon will be a relax and maybe a film, dinner will be roast turkey and all the trimmings, might be too close to Christmas for turkey but I do love it and its been in the freezer for months so needs using.
Hope you all have nice restful days xx

Good morning everyone.
I've slept right through until about ten minutes ago. Mind you, I didn't close my eyes until after midnight (unusually) and I took a mega painkiller. Even so, I slept well.
No real agenda apart from more op planning. I've had some great advice by PM so did a bit of online shopping yesterday. The skirt I ordered from Marks the other day arrived, just a pull on one with elasticated waist, which looks fine. Just also looks weird - me in a skirt!!
All's well here. Mostly. Thoughts to those struggling. Happy Sunday to all.0 -
Morning peeps
Been playing truant again sorry
Busy old times with work and mum but today is officially self care Sunday. Started off with a lovely lie in and will be ending with a full blown chicken roast with all the necessary accompaniments.
Yesterday was a full on manufacturing line here for my chilli jam but there is still not enough for everyone I have promised a bottle too so Ill ramp the line up again next week. Talking of pickled onions redruby I was working in the Sarsons vinegar factory last week and managed to come away withe 3 jars of onions and some Worcestershire sauce. Fascinating to watch them go through the process...they actually have a huge brewery to make the vinegar...smell was overpowering though.
Gers cant you get delivery for your shopping? I can imagine the agony at the moment.
Not sure ill bother getting dressed today pjs catch up tv and a roast.....ahhhhhh:)
Think thats all....oh wait .....Alexa how could I forget. Well nobody could be more amazed than me but she's using it!!!! Well I say that I think she's asked about the weather most days and played some jazz. Impressed? so was I
Have a lovely sunday all0 -
Nelski - thanks so much for all your great advice. I've taken it all on board.
The day to day food is what I still go out to buy. Milk, bread, eggs etc and whatever else. Yesterday it was honey, ketchup, tins of soup. Delivery of such small quantities isn't worth it, and, I really need to keep my muscles strong. Both the postie and a neighbour offered to help me, I (graciously) turned them down. My walk yesterday reminded me of how bad my hip is so I need to make sure I'm ready for recovery.
It's so lovely to learn that your DM has taken to Alexa. Well done to you for the idea. Sometimes parents surprise us. My DM pooh-pooed the idea of a remote control unit for her window blind and now delights in operating it and won't let me press the button! :rotfl:0 -
Morning folks and thanks REDRUBY. Lovely day here too and still feels reasonably mild. Long may it continue!
I didn't realise just how taxing the start to my day would prove to be with no functioning loo and shower. By the time I was sorted I felt ready for going back to bed again! The plumber rang to apologise about his promise to be back "tomorrow" when he left yesterday. He had forgotten it was Sunday! So now due back tomorrow afternoon. I'm just glad I haven't had the DGDs here this w/e, that would have proved even more taxing!
I have just put a lovely lean bacon loin joint on to cook for my lunch. I'll do plenty of veg and can then plate up my dinner for tomorrow night too. I have a swede that's looking a bit sad so think I might do the screaming swede method in the mw. I hate peeling and chopping swede, I don't know why I keep buying them!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Beautiful sunny morning here, the bedding is on the line along with a couple of throws.
We were all going to meet up with DS2 and partner for lunch but we haven't heard from him. DD and I will go to Glasgow, she needs something to wear for a christening next week.
I'm impressed Nelski!
Glad you've had good advice Gers.
How's your plumbing TA?
Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all! There's one more bootful to go to the dump and when I come back [ will be checking the cameras to see how busy it is first] there will be potter gardening going on unless I can persuade OH to help shift stuff.
I'm taking some rosemary cuttings from all three big bushes, need to cut back the sage a bit, move the arch, save the fennel seeds and dig up the rosemary..I've got lovage seeds that I saved from my old one and I really want to grow some but it'll take over the front garden if I put it there, mabe I'll just put it in a pot for now.
Nelski, well, that's a turn up, long may it continue - although I am reminded of Dave the Hbiker saying jazz was a migraine put to music...:) The roast sounds lovely, haven't had one for a long time...Gers, good luck and with your preparations you should be up and about in no time!... ruby, following your pickle adventures closely, I've never made pickles [only pickled eggs] and I'm feeling like I might give it a go..hope the plumber makes good on his promise to come tomorrow, with bits TA. Buckets fo water are heavy!camelot, enjoy your day out! hey to everyone else about to come and just reading, hope your day goes as well as it can...Scratching the tidying itch Sunday..Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Nelski, I only use our Alexa for the temperature outside and as an alarm (although I hate the alarm as it's Jeremy Clarkson shouting wake up, wake up).
I had a lovely day yesterday (well, apart from the weekly food shop). In the afternoon I went to Ely to a talk on one of my favourite authors, an oldie but a goody, Georgette Heyer. People used to be very sniffy about her books but she is going through a bit of a rehabilitation with fans like Stephen Fry and A.S.Byatt. I've loved her books since I was a teenager and she's one of my comfort reads.
After that I went to see Chris and Crystal who are just down the road and had a cuppa and a chat before coming home. Steve had been out at the People's March which I'd have gone to if it hadn't been for my rescheduled talk. He had a good day too.
He's playing golf with Chris now and I'm just about to tidy the house.0 -
Where has the day gone? It's dark outside already and I've done 'something close to nothing' as Prince said!
I use my Alexa for the time in the middle of the night, for temperature and weather forecasts and for music. I also have bedside lights and some sockets all connected, both here and at my own home. The other day I could see that the lights in my own place were on as there had been a power cut so was able to switch them off again.
The gadget for helping put on socks arrived. It needed some practice before I was convinced it was any use, however I've now successfully put on my right sock a number of times so the gadget can stay.
After that came, and after my practice runs, I fell asleep. Didnt mean to, didn't even want to, it just happened. Now I'm about to make DM some food before going back to doing nothing again.
Tomorrow morning I have a dental appointment at 9.00a.m. Final replacement crown is being fitted. I need to gather my strength for that. :rotfl:
