Changing telephone number

I need to change my telephone number for self-assessment but do not have mobile coverage at either telephone.
Does anyone know how I get my phone number changed ?

Can't make head or tail of your post, Brian. Just write down the "big picture" of what you are trying or hoping to do.

As I understood it, the OP needs to change their personal details (i.e. phone number) already lodged with HMRC.
The link I provided above explains how to do this. :)

If, as may be the case, the OP needs to change the phone number associated with the OTP that HMRC send to access your own personal tax account (e.g. to file self assessment online), and they cannot change it online perhaps because the existing number no longer works (and an alternative is not set up, or does not work either), then if the OP calls the number in the above link, I'm sure they will assist.

I think the way they will resolve this will be to cancel the OP's online account access completely, and then ask them to sign up again, this time with the correct details :)

But that is your guess at several possible interpretations. And it doesn't seem to fit in with "but do not have mobile coverage at either telephone".

Let's hear it direct from the only one worth hearing from - brianposter...:)

I am simply trying to change the telephone number to which HMRC sends a one time password so that I can log in to my account.
The problem is that it is difficult to believe that such a simple update could possibly be problematic.
I have now worked out how to make the change (at least in theory) for a UK number using maxcy"s link, but unfortunately I am trying to change to a foreign number which the relevant page will not accept.
Have also tried using the telephone but was told that it could not be done that way.

It sounds like I will have to pass on maxcy"s second suggestion to HMRC.
