O/S Daily Friday 18 October 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, it's wet underfoot but not raining at the moment.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was liver, bacon, sausage, mash and veg. Tonight will be something and chips for the menfolk.
Yesterday I was quite productive I got most of the things done I wanted, I just need to do the food shop this morning, and do some ironing, and change our bed, I did several loads of washing but had to TD it all as there was just no way it was going to dry on the line, but it is all dried, folded and put away, just a few bits to iron.
Today I'll just be doing the last few jobs and then I'll chill as I'm working tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Cold here and still raining I think its rained solidly for 24 hours with no break ! off to work today although Ive pulled my neck turning over in the night and cant move it very much so Im hoping it will loosen a bit before I go.
Thanks for the good wishes re FIL he had a pacemaker fitted yesterday and they kept him overnight and will x-ray him today to make sure its all working and in the correct place, hopefully he will be able to come home today which is amazing at 84 !!
Lemon and Thyme chicken tonight which I will do some rice with and green beams, and I must do my meal plan for next week and shopping list.
TA well done to your girlies xxx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning, it's raining hard here, but will ease off later according to the forecast.
Thanks for starting NMLC, you are busy as usual.
Redruby, i'm pleased your FIL is doing well - so clever isn't it, what they can do. Sorry you've hurt your neck, sometimes a hot water bottle on the area helps, though I quite understand that going into work with a hot bottle draped round your neck could cause comment. have you tried giving it a good hard rub?
I'm going with a friend to her hospital appointment this morning, then we'll probably look round the shops in Durham, and have a sandwich somewhere,
Tonight I'll be visiting a friend, and that's today sorted.
I got quite a lot of washing damp dry yesterday, and finished it off on the airer and TD, also did all my ironing, so that's done. The ironing was taking over the spare room.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can.
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Think I may have some voice today. :j. Not going to use it too much so a quiet day planned. It's still raining too.
Good news about your FIL redruby, so reassuring.
Happy Friday to all.0 -
Morning everyone,
Last nights football was...intersting. It was at the Manchester City training complex which was obviously very plush indeed. The game was very organised, with kits, linesmen etc, which I wasn't expecting. And, we had no subs, so I played a full 90 minutes for the first time in months. My knee was fine thankfully, although I did get major cramp in calf, twice.
Total spends: £4 for football
NSD: 7/17
No gym this morning, as I spent my morning finishing packing for my weekend back home which I'll be leaving for pretty sharpish. As ever, a full weekend planned but I'll try to keep the spends down.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Gers - your garden looks great and I love seeing your fresh herbs flourish.
Scarlet - enjoy your day.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's fine here and for some reason the heavy rain has been skirting round us all week.
Late for the register this morning. Sorry miss. It was more manic than normal with the DGDs this morning, middle one excited as it's her 11th birthday tomorrow and younger one excited for her! Eldest was still trundling about in sloth mode! A forgotten PE bag added panic to the mayhem. I am trying to bring myself together with copious amounts of coffee but it's not working.
Just another cup and then the Friday Tidy beckons. The hardest job I have achieved so far is filling the dw and set it going to do its thing!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. REDRUBY good news about FIL. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all...off to tip etc this morning and get some cake for OH's mums visit. Haven't really tidied, been too busy throwing things and attempting to organise the little bits left behind. Need to turn mattress and put the electric blanket on ready, I was quite cold last night despite the 10 tog duvet. My arm was also playing up, couldn't stretch it far, may have something to do with the great clean up, who knows? No other plans for the rest of the day, just relax and potter..
Great news about your FIL redruby, lots of stretching for your neck, I hate it when that happpens. Lovely garden Gers, looks freindly and cosy, not all formal and unapproachableTA careful of your legs..that Monday came around quick, I remember you saying it was three weeks till you knew...good luck to your fiend for hospital appt scarlet, enjoy being peripatetic..have a good weekend Speky!

Afternoon all,
RR glad FIL is recovering nicely.
Gers, nice garden & 1 of the reasons I liked this house was cos it's stone and there is a stone wall running all along the back garden
Been busy yesterday and today as the plumber has just finished joining the 2 new radiators onto the system.Feels warmer in the kitchen already
Shepherds pie for tea, will peel the spuds when I've done on here. Not posted this week as not much of interest happening. We have been asked up to our friends for a meal tomorrow though, and I'm going to a football match with DS & DGS:D in the afternoon.
TA hope the appt on Monday helps your poorly legs, and hope everyone else is ok x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Well, that was 30kg of clothes [incl 4 prs of shoes] that went the way of Africa/Eastern Europe this morning, and I got the princely sum of £12. Which immediately went on some veg and meat [ shin of beef / potatoes/ onions - guess what's for supper?] and some cream cakes [ 2 x scones, 1 x eclair] and some cheese for the fridge and freezer.
Also got the textiles to the dump along with some mugs/bottles, the old light [ spectacular smash from the fluorescent tube bit, it more or less exploded, good job it was well away from anyone], dropped off some arm warmer/neck warmer things I'd made years ago to the homeless cafe.
Also, Ohs mum took quite a lot of fabric and the stuff I'd put by in case she liked it, so I have one bag of wool left for the Big Knit tomorrow, one bag of stuff and an old tablet for the Scrapstore, two bags of material for a friend.
I should really be putting this on the clutter free thread but I think I have totally smashed any total I could have set myself this year
And the aliums turned up from Denmark this morning so they can be popped in tomorrow or Sunday...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Evening all.
My voice is gaining in strength though it's still very deep and gruff. I've not spoken too much yet, saving it for important times.
Thanks for the lovely comments about my back garden even though it's very unkempt. It is a walled garden as my home forms part of an old farmstead. The roofs you see at the back are for animal steadings. Think the whole thing dates back to late 1790s with 'modern' additions dating 1860-62. Blooming freezing in winter, the only aspect I truly miss is mains gas!
Well, it's been a very lazy day indeed. I've written a letter of complaint to a bank, read a lot of a book, fed and watered DM and that's about it. Tomorrow is big shop day though DM's crossword buddy is away so no need for acres of cake.0
