Salary overpayment

A colleague was overpaid by their previous employer and has had a letter asking for the gross money to be paid back. Is that correct? Would they not re-run the payroll and he pay the correct net payment back. He is happy to pay the net. Thank you.

Unless your colleague didn’t pay any tax, NI or pension the repayment should be based on the Net overpayment. Tell them to contact their ex employer and confirm they agree they were overpaid (if they do agree) and explain they are willing to repay the Net amount.
    Hope this helps
