O/S Daily Tuesday 15 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Still dark here, but it's stopped raining but very damp with lots of laying water - more rain forecast later and tomorrow. Air is cooler too.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, roasted LO new potatoes sprinkled with cheese and black pepper then baked in the oven, LO cauli/broc cheese, mushy peas (menfolk) and I cleared up some LO carrots, mashed swede and yorkshires - lovely it was too - it tasted so much better than the last one I made so feel more confident again to do it again. Was so nice to get in from a busy Monday and have a meal well on the way to being sorted and cooked, I just organised the veg to go with it. I also have some LO veg left so that will go with the pork loins I remembered to take out of the freezer to defrost last night - that's what we'll be having for dinner tonight.

Yesterday work was busy - and we had some quite difficult cases and 1 particular right towards the end of the day where I thought we may have difficultly getting the customer to leave - eventually they did but as we were closing. Today I'm working at the other office - so a change of scene - no doubt it will be busy though as when it's busy it also means the other job is busy too!

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's fine here, the overnight rain has left for pastures new but it feels quite a chilly start.

Thank you all for your kind words yesterday. I was left feeling so drained I did very little all day. A few jobs out of necessity and then feet up most of the day reading or watching stuff on catch up.

I am on the move today. Being Tuesday it's my coffee and lunch catch up day with my friend. Already browsing the new menu in my mind!! I have her birthday present to take with me as, at the w/e, she will become a year older than me! (I catch her up in March!)

So a no cooking day for me. Dippy egg and soldiers for brekkie and soup out defrosting for this evening, to have with a sandwich when I start to feel peckish,

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for those in need. Thinking of our absent friends. If you are reading along it's not the same without you. Take care all xx

    Morning all

We got the storm yesterday evening with very heavy rain and thunder for a while, its still raining now but meant to stop soon, its a bit cooler but not too bad.

Off to work for me and nice quiet Tuesday might be shattered due to me having noisy man for the day, the sooner his group re opens the better !!

I forgot to get something out of the freezer last night so will go and look now, hopefully there is something in there that will defrost quickly for a meal tonight. Will take some soup for my lunch as I really enjoyed it yesterday.

Right better dash as running late have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

I have to go to the hospital this afternoon, it's just to check that my tongue is healing properly. It's 20 miles away but of course there's no direct bus, I have to catch three buses and it'll take me two and a half hours to get there. I'm used to buses every ten minutes here so this is far too much work for me :D I looked up taxi prices but they were anything from £45 to £66  I can get home, mr tru can pick me up after work.

The shopping is coming this morning, I'll walk Scamp then get as much housework done as possible before it arrives.

That's my day full, no time for anything else :D

    Morning folks.

Tru - that's just a rubbish trip! Can you ask the taxi company for a fixed price? Most times it can be cheaper that way.

TA - I'm looking forward to hearing what you have for lunch.

The hospital visit was brief. The bloke did a quick check of the aid, turned the white noise down. Fifteen minutes tops.

The threatened rain never arrived so I had a very pleasant drive back down to Glasgow. My DM and her friend were happily working on crosswords.

Funnily enough their reaction to my still lost voice was to either 1) shout at me (DM) or 2) whisper to me (friend) :rotfl: Most odd.

Today I'll be waiting to see what comes up. I still can't speak so hope for a quiet day as I feel slightly ropey. Just the virus working its way through.

    Camelot - enjoy the GC.

Thoughts to all those struggling. Happy Tuesday to everyone.
  • Good morning from a dark and wet Manchester,

Yesterday went as expected. Nipped home after work for a quick bite to eat and then drove back into town for yoga. A couple of phone calls with a few of my mates too. Was in bed for before 10.
Total Spends: £3.80 - had to buy tins of tuna for my lunches
    NSD: 7/17

Today I have a networking event in the city centre which will take up most of the afternoon. I've brought my gym stuff with me to go afterwards. Aside from this, I've no additional plans.

    TA - Enjoy lunch
Tru - Wow. I hope the journey is smooth and on time. Good luck with the appt
Gers - Their reaction made me chuckle. Sounds like it's just a waiting game for your voice to come back now.
  • At least its dry so far this morning, it hissed it down all day, very bad in the evening, reports of roads flooded locally, hope the rain holds off until later today and hopefully for part of tomorrow. We are driving up to Sheffield.

Need to make scotch broth this morning, have the broth mixture soaking in a bowl, will put the three bones in that I have and also the liquor from Sunday. should not need a stock cube, but will taste it anyway. Will use my PKP 30 minutes and soup for lunch!!

Have to nip to the PO in the next village, I ordered rolls to take with us tomorrow and I need to draw cash for the household stuff like the cleaner etc. It owes me £5 anyway from the window cleaner last week.

Might spend some time in the sewing room. I have some bed linen to iron.

    Morning all,
Just sat at the table watching 2 little bluetits feasting on the berries of a pyracantha :)

The doorbell rang early with our nice nextdoor neighbour warning us he's seen 2 men breaking into a car at the top of the road when he took the dog out. When I took Ly1a out he was talking to the couple and a pcso turned up ,shortly followed by a police car and it turned out 2 others had been done as well. It's a bit of an epidemic round here at the moment. Thieves can soon disappear with the park & woodland
I might do some painting in the hall today, it's white paint and gets very mucky with wet dog ,DGC and car enthusiast DS1 :D I want to have a good tidy up too.
I had a trip to town yesterday and bought 3 nice cacti in ceramic pots a friend recommended from Al di for the cloakroom window. I arrived at the bus station to see my hourly bus just leaving so had a slow amble back to the other end of the town and went to a nice cafe we go to near another bus stop. Very MS because they give you a card & stamp it with every buy,I had 10 stamps so got my coffee free. I bought a millionaire shortbread too so some money did change hands :),they are very friendly in there so I sat and read the morning paper provided until it was time to go.
Will dig in the freezer for tea,I really need to whittle it down a bit or I won't get any Xmas stuff in there. Hope you all have a good day x

Morning all...yesterdy was a bit of faff...Did the first eye test, went backin the afternoon for the other one, the prescription in my contacts hasn't changed that much because they work it so I have some middle distance and reading. Which gave me a big phew! because I thought by what she said in the morning my eyes were much much worse...
Slept a lot on the sofa yesterday after Sundays shennanigans, a little bit of sorting went on, now today I need a KUTA....Shower in a bit then I can start again.
Both cats stayed overnight, it really was hammering down nearly all day yesterday, it stopped about eleven o clock last night. The porch decided to leak again because I haven't got round to putting new silicone along the porch line where it meets the wall. Another job to do.

TA, have a lovely day out after all the emotional rollercoastering...Speky, take care of yourself! Gers, good to hear the appt went well and funny to the reactions, hope it goes away quickly. Rosy, that's just so annoying. Good job on the free coffee! tru, hope the journey goes uneventfully...csarina, careful driving...Hey to all reading, hey to all not posting, hope you're all ok-ish...P.S what TA said ^
    Torpid Tuesday...

  • Hi chums been AWOL as I have a builder in at the moment and he is tiling the porch , its not been touched for abut 10 years so it was well overdue a facelift, nice chap who does all my house repairing jobs for me. I feed him bacon rolls and constant coffee and he will do anything extra as well bless him. He is even going to take my car round to the garage for me to top up the tyre pressure later as I had a warning light come on the dashboard .My joints aren't quite as bendy as they were, so I am really pleased as bending to undo tyre dust caps have become a bit of a problem now :).
I have been cooking this morning as well so my house smells rather nice I am making a batch cook up of some mince for lasagnes as last weeks ones went down very well with both of my DDs.

I drove up to Colchester on Sunday to see DGS Henry in his Halls at Essex Uni and he has settled in nicely. His room is huge compared to his brothers at Hertfordshire, so nice I would be happy to stay in one myself :)

DGS Ben is on halft term this weekend so he is coming back from his shared house in London for some home cooking so I will be cooking up a storm by Friday to feed him up as well with some home cooked cake,he will want to take some back with him no doubt :)

Hope everyone is having a good week, dreadful rain for a couple of days but sunny at the moment thank goodness

Happy Birthday to those celebrating and a <<hug>> for those who are finding life difficult at the moment

Right take care all and keep warm and dry .Midway through the month already

    Cheers chums JackieO xx

Nice to see you again Jackie - you are so busy it makes me dizzy!

My DM's GP came to give her the flu jag and then examined me. As I thought, it's a viral laryngitis and only needs time, warmth, honey & lemon and lots of fluids. I hate honey though have taken two lots already (holding my nose!) and can only wait. Coughing has started so the peak is coming.

Apart from that nothing has happened. DM made her own lunch :j

Taff - good news about your eyes.
