Dental hygienist charges

Options
Hi moneysavers!

Longtime reader of threads, first time poster - wondered if anyone has any advice for me.

I recently joined a new dentist surgery after a several years of not seeing one. She said I should book a private cleaning with a hygienist or could have NHS but not as good in terms of stain removing. She convinced me to go private (with some misgivings) for £50.

Just had the cleaning, and hygienist said she couldn't do it all in one go and will have to come back again to have my top teeth done at the same price... Felt like I didn't have a choice, but quite annoyed I'm going to be paying 100. They've taken a deposit of 50% and booked me in for next month.

Anyone have any experience of this at all?? Feeling a bit conned and with half clean teeth :D

I can't say I have had stains removed but I did go to a hygienist once who showed me how to brush my teeth and charged me £30 for it. Never again!!! To be honest, I didn't have a clue what a hygienist did so when it was mentioned to me, I thought why not.

I had my first ever hygienist appointment in August and honestly, they did it all that appointment. Depends how much build up you have and how stained your teeth are. I didn't have a lot of staining, but the staining I did have was gone after my appointment.

Do you floss or use interdental brushes already?

Mine wasn't too bad price wise, £45 for the appointment, but this is at a mostly private practice.
  • Thanks both! I only just saw these replies. To be honest my teeth look fine and weren't noticeably different after the session. She didn't polish them though, as that will apparently be done at the next session...

Re: interdental brushes, I certainly am now! At least it doesn't sound like an unusually high price. Just felt like a lot all in one go. Probably won't be doing it again to be honest.

    Thanks money savers!

If you have this done now and learn how to clean your teeth properly, the dentist will give a quick clsan of your teeth when you go for your 6 month check up appointments.
If you dont do check ups, you will be back to square one in a couple of years
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
